Okay, I have a plan. We buy a boat. Catch all the jellyfish. Then sell them to China! Then we make a treasure room like in Fable 3 and roll in money!

Why would jellyfish thrive on overfishing and pollution?

I've caught maybe 2 small jellyfish this season, and seen one smashed to bits in my brother's boat. I've seen Jelly years... this is not a jellyfish-laden Cook Inlet.

Some types of Jellyfish are indeed considered a delicacy in east asia.
They are actually delicious when properly prepared, sliced into strips, seasoned in vinegar and sesame oil, and served cold. Their texture is like chewy beef tendon (another rather delicious oriental dish if correctly prepared), but with a much lighter and clearer taste. It can be made into a sort of salad, or lightly cooked with either vegetables or meats.

Unfortunately the recipes seems particular about the exact type of jelley fish, and the sort that becomes abundant when fish stock is depleted appearently do not make for good eating.

The Japanese were among the first to suffer massive jellyfish outbreaks after overfishing, and believe me, they tried to see if they could eat the wind fall in jellyfish. Appearently no go.

äääh. not just in asia. They are also served in Spain.
But most people who go on holidays in Spain never manage to leave the hotel districts with their shops and annoying dutch tourists.
When they manage to get sober in the first place.

Happy that I never went to those disgusting places in Spain but to others.

I never thought there was much edible on a jellyfish. The tentacles have stingers on them and the rest is just yick.

Vinegar inactivated the stinging cells.

Not all jellyfish has bells that are diaphanous bags of jelly. Larger ones are quite substantial, and feel more like deflated air mattress if hauled on deck. They have a rubbery texture, and is chewy.
