I'm an academic atheist....until I run into some xtian shithead. Then, I confess, I can lose my temper.

Six types of atheist
|
I lack belief that god/s exist = atheist.
This has very little, if anything, to do with the rest of my persona and imagine that is the same for many of you.

Well said. Creationists put people into two false categories: Atheists who accept evolution, and God believers who reject evolution. That simply isn't true. There are probably Atheists who are skeptical about or don't believe in evolution, and some religious people (most of them known as Deists) believe God created the heavens and universe, but left it to run on natural causes (evolution). Quote:Which type are you? The 7th kind.
Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"
Half Baked "Let the atheists come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom of heathens belongs to people like these." -Saint Bacon
I'd categorise myself as a fairly basic standard model atheist who doesn't believe in categories. Oh, and gods of course.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

The why might put you into one of the categories offered - or it might not. I found the article interesting but that might be because I saw myself in it. Classification of human behaviours is notoriously difficult and I cannot imagine those that created this research did so on the basis that everyone could be shoehorned into a given category but it does appear to me that this is not a bad effort. I'd guess (on the basis of nothing but instinct) that the categories cover 95% of atheists right off the bat - allowing for people who straddle 2 or more categories.
I'm the kind who likes to toy with theists as a cat does with a toy which resembles a mouse on occasion, but outside of this forum and, very occasionally, on Facebook, I rarely spare much attention to religion.
These categories are based on an american survey, and from my (french) point of view I think they love to "categorize" to much, it's reassuring to know in which box you can put someone.
Maybe just separate atheist who know why they are atheist, and those who are atheist for......... other reasons, or for a lack of reasons, or just becasue they are lazy ? I consider myself as "free" or at least as free as I can. Gravity sucks sometimes, I can't be free from it
Le futur de l'humanité n'est possible que via l'annihilation de toutes ces religions débiles!
Mankind's futur is possible only through the annihilation of all these stupid religions! At different times from my deconversion to the present I could have been shoehorned into any and all of these descriptions, hell even from one moment to the next. Most of the time I really don't think about it, then at a gathering someone says something religiously stupid and I become an anti-, other times I might give it great thought and I become an intellectual...see where I'm going? Might as well ask me if I think I'm a hamburgerian or a pizzarian hock: I'm both at different times.
