Lennon was an atheist or at the very least an agnostic. Just look at his lyrics, not only to Imagine, but to God (the Dream is Over), where he states, "I don't believe in Bible... I don't believe in Jesus... I don't believe in Buddha... I don't believe in Mantra..." etc. And it culminates in, "I just believe in me. Yoko and me, and that's reality." Doesn't sound like a believer to moi. There are other songs of his where a non-faith worldview can be inferred, if not explicitly stated.
I believe Yoko Ono still owns the rights to most of Lennon's post-Beatles music. The guy doing this cover could be sued, assuming he's selling this tripe.
It really bugs me when people misappropriate music or other artworks for their own rather than their intended purposes... My dad loves Bob Marley, yet he's a racist... I still don't understand how he reconciles his love for the artist with his worldview.
I find it interesting that you're trying to teach me something about Lennon or the Beatles, I grew up with them and I was as disappointed as anyone when they dissolved the band. The Beatles wrote a lot of great music, but as a Christian there are some songs that I can not agree with, which is my right and I could not care less what your opinion is of mine. I would like to find all there songs without the words, their music is still some of my favorite. I fell the same about the Marshall Tucker Band, both bands were some of the best writing music. Just because I appreciated the words put to this song doesn't mean anything other than that, you guys jumped the gun as usual, trying to tell me things about music that I was listening to before most of you were born.
The person who put the words to Lennon's song more than likely got permission to do so. Many of the old rock songs have had there words changed and recorded for the Christian community, some by the original artist and some by other artist, all were done legally, Christians do not usually purposely break the law.
Yoko Ono was probably more interested in the money she would get from a reword of the song than what the original song meant to others.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Christians are the garbage of this planet, second only to the muslims. You people are the most immoral disgusting creatures on earth. Of course a Christian "never breaks the law" ... its the same thing for your filthy fucking god ... he can't do anything wrong either, everything is always justified when you put the name of jesus in front of it. Meanwhile, our prisons are stocked full of christians.
What a fucking joke. "Christians don't usually purposely break the law." Pull your head outta your butt!

My response was to the music industry, not to the world. Besides your opinion is only to inflame and the world would be better without your kind.

The whole point of Imagine is Lennon's dream of a peaceful world, without religion, discrimination, poverty, war. To bastardize it by turning it into a Christian song of praise and encouragement to join the faith, is the opposite of what Lennon's message was.
I was quite a Beatles/Lennon fangirl in high school. If you want to assume you know more about their music simply because you were alive during their time, I'll take that bet. Name the time, place, and format. This is the same fallacious thinking you apply to the "golden era" of "low-crime" and general American "perfection" during the 1950's and 60's. I was there =/= I know better than you. By the way, I'm 32... so it's just a touch condescending. Especially, when one is discussing music. No one is around from when Mozart, Beethoven, or Chopin were alive, but there are many people well versed in their compositions, styles, and interpreted meanings of their works.
Yoko Ono donated the rights to Lennon's music to Amnesty International, so they could have artists cover his music and produce an album, the proceeds of which went to Darfur. I believe she did maintain final creative authority on the various covers done of his work, to ensure artistic integrity. I'm quite confident this cover would not pass her (or Lennon's) standards. I believe she's pretty much set, in terms of money, and isn't too worried on that front. I believe she has demonstrated a placement of higher value on Lennon's legacy and maintaining the integrity of his work, than money.
It's akin to the KKK changing the lyrics to and covering "One Love" by Marley and making it a back to Africa tune... It's just wrong and bad, and they should feel bad for taking the entire meaning of the song and perverting it.
@FNM, I have no issue with covers. I can appreciate the stripped down piano only Imagine by Lennon as not being everyone's taste, and that's cool. I agree with you, the issue is the bastardization of the message of the song.

It's a travesty to deface Lennon's work like that. The fucker should be sued.
He's dead dumb dumb. He also knows something you don't.
Everybody knows a million things that you don't. That's what comes from reading your stupid fucking bible all day long.
