Abortion?

Abortion?
Whenever I don't have a view on something I make a thread about it because I want to see who can sway me in a direction of support or disgust.

What are your opinions on abortion?

RE: Abortion?
Personally, I would never have one.

But that's because I am unable to conceive. Which is due to a Y-chromasome.

RE: Abortion?
I believe it should be completely up to the woman. I don't believe a fetus is a person, and I don't think a fetus should have any rights.

Into the third term things get a little shaky, but I still think it should be completely up to the mother, with medical counsel, at any point before birth.

Canada is in a good spot, legally. There are no laws concerning abortion, it just has to be approved by a panel of doctors. It's certainly better to have medical professionals making this decisions instead of religious leaders or politicians.

I agree, it should be up to the woman. If the child was a result of rape then I can understand why she would not want it. If she was just careless then I would try to convince her to have the baby and give it up for adoption. If she refused, abortion is the only moral way to go. I would rather see a baby not born at all than born to an unloving family.

My computer is being a bit funny because I had to move it around today but basically my links say that very few woman who have abortions do it because of rape and homeless children numbers have been on the increase.

I don't think anyone should really have a valid opinion other than the woman who has to make the decision. Nothing angers me more than pro-life supporters. A fetus is called a fetus for a reason. It has the potential to be human, yes. But in early stages...how do you define what it is to be human? I personally would take a scientific view - in that, it would have to have all organs to be considered human. But , Christians believe in a "soul" and that a soul is created from the moment of conception. . Blah blah.

RE: Abortion?
I don't like slippery slope argument.

But the trouble with the abortion issue is fixing the date at which it is no longer OK to abort.

Would abortion be OK 1 week before due birth date? I think not.

Do I have moral issues with a "morning after" pill? Not at all.

So where, between those 2 extremes should a cut-off be made?

I honestly don't know.

I used to be anti abortion in my christian days. I used to be anti any meddling. Then, when after 10 years of trying and no kids we had to start IVF and hey presto! my christian black and white vision of the world devloped shades of grey Smile

So I'm pro choice as they say, but still uneasy about how far down term it should be practiced.
