Should logic be taught in elementary?

RE: Should logic be taught in elementary?
I think middle or high school would be a good time to start learning logic. Elementary school might be pushing it--logic's definitely important and useful, but it's a bit specialized, and middle school is where subjects start branching out from the basics.

Yeah well I live with a first and second grader and their logic astounds me. All they want is to be taught. All they want is to know wHy. I'm not sure if by the time middle school hits they'll care enough about the why..
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

While I'm completely in favor of teaching logic to children, I also foresee the likely fallout: Fundamentalist parents agitating for equal time for sophistry in the classroom so that kids can be taught "the controversy."

Isn't the best way to teach logic just Mathematics?

My first grader (he's going into 2nd grade in a couple weeks) gets frustrated because of the focus on reading and writing and he's a math guy. Reading and writing are important, but the US educational system doesn't put enough emphasis on math. Our school district doesn't allow kids who are good at math to do move on to more advanced stuff because they aren't doing equally well in the reading/writing arena. So my kid spends half the day frustrated with the reading and writing and bored for part of the day (because they don't equally divide time between reading/writing and math) with the easy math... No one wins.

Deductive and inductive logic I don't think are related to mathematics if you're talking just basic arithmetic and algebra. I don't remember ever learning about soundness, validity, syllogisms etc in any math classes I took even in college.
My ignore list
