RE: Ladies, are you Atheists?

I tried to raise my son to have a mind of his own. I just never heard him mention god and actually I can't recall him ever asking about god growing up. We just never discussed it. Now he is 21, in the Navy and married. The marriage hit a rough spot when a secret was reveled to his wife and she was very angry with him. He wrote on myspace, twice, that he was praying to God that things will work out. Well, she made her decision and thing aren't going to go his way. I haven't had a chance to talk to him since she made her decision, he's in Spain. I'm going to have to ask him what he feels about his prayer and god. My nephew is going through a bad divorce and he has turned to god to help him. My other nephew had many problems with the law and was homeless for a while, he turned to god to help him. Some one else I know had a cocaine problem and turned to god to help. I just wonder why certain people in a crisis turn to god to make things better. I've had a crisis or two in my life and I don't recall turning to god. I just picked myself up and moved on. I feel like yelling "Can't you do anything for yourself?"

Well, unless he was never toilet-trained: yes ^_^
But that is a good question.... if people spent more time trying to do something... instead of begging nonexistent beings for help: they might actually get it done.

Maybe it's a realisation of need - like meditation can be, for example.

Maybe they think it is a realization of need And become addicted to it, so they think they need it more... and essentially they don't need it to begin with

Yeah, there are a lot of girls that are atheists. I've noticed some just seem to avoid saying whether they are or are not I can never understand that, because I myself have never had an issue admitting it. I think a lot of the hesitation to admit comes from the discrimination that you get for admitting to be an atheist.

Incorrect. I think all the choices we make are choices! It's just that...none of them are "free"!!
And I think that each of us has a Will, Volition - it's just not "Free" Will!!

So what's your opinion then? Is that made from will or intellect - it's only personal to you in that your life produced the end result, ergo your opinion is only a result of a robot style existence.

Fallacious logic, even if you were "fated" or, IOW(?) if it was determined, that doesn't rule out Skill and feeling good. Skill and feeling good is a reality whether it is determined or indetermined.

Who mentioned fate anyway? Fr0d0 made a strawman out of me by saying that I don't believe anything is a choice. That is incorrect. I believe that we make choices, of course - I just don't believe that they're "free".
And whether it was "Free" or not, was not even mentioned until I mentioned it to provide clarify that I do believe we make choices (it's just that they're not free).
Fate wasn't mentioned, there's a difference between choice and Free Choice, and if something is fated that's got nothing to do with the matter of the existence of skill and feeling good, etc, etc.

My opinion is in my mind and it is determined. My opinion is indeed effected by choices I have made. I do, indeed, make choices. But I do not believe that these choices are "free", no.
I believe in choices and Will. But not free choices and free Will.

I have always thought it really weird that so many women are religious, especially with the whole mythos centered around women being to blame for everything and must be obedient to men and crap. But, maybe if women are more susceptible to it, some spear chucking atheist dude way back when thought it would be a great way to control the bitches, and he built the creation stories toward that end.
