Is Hell Really a Bad Place?

I teach him self respect. I teach him that he can do anything if he applies himself. I'll raise him with the thinking tools needed to take control of his own life and not put it in the hands of an imaginary man in the sky. He's already getting good at asking-How do you know that is true? That's a huge step in filtering the claims heard from others, and seems to be a real problem for certain Christians to remember to ask. When he's old enough, I'll explain to him that there are people that were never taught the right way to think. People who grow up without having any way of distinguishing imaginary friends from real ones. I'll teach him not to stare at them when they're talking to themselves at dinner or at weddings. I'll teach him about you, GC.

I disremember who it was (I want to say Twain) who suggested, 'Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.'

ROFLOL Listen to the logic behind this: You're saying Christ must have existed because there has been a lot written about him. Well, there's also been a lot written about The Toxic Avenger, Captain America, and Robocop, too. So does that mean they really lived?

Maybe Jesus only exists in our imaginations, just like the three gentlemen above.

Writings don't cut it, my friend. Fossil evidence is a good start for what you need.

The great irony of this thread is this: In these forums many people rail against the God that condemns people to eternal damnation. But when these same people are offered a choice between their favorite depravity or God, they chose to continue sinning rather than repent. As such they are not sent to Hell, but go there by choice.

What a load of horseshit. You can choose any atheist on this forum and I guaran-dam-tee you they are more loving, compassionate and caring than the god made up in the bible.

Bank on it.

Yep, that's what's happening. No chance at all that we're just indulging in a slightly comedic intellectual exercise, the prime source of fodder being the subversion of a commonplace and predominant christian theological trope that has invaded much of the common lexicon, namely that hell is a bad place. And there certainly isn't a long tradition of this precise same wry subversion occurring throughout history in such great minds as- as mentioned in this very thread- Mark Twain.

No, we're actually being totally serious here, because we believe in hell. That's what's happening. You caught us.

I believe in hell, if we're talking about a "a hell of a good time".
