Pap, I'm glad to hear that you're contemplating getting another dog soon. While it is no doubt true that no dog will ever replace Popeye, the companionship may help to fill the empty space.
It's been nearly four years since I had to let my lab Buddy go, and I regret not getting another dog right away. It didn't get easier, if anything it got harder. Pepper hasn't much time left, I think - she is 15 and I know it's only a matter of time. Perhaps it's time for me to do so as well.
Yes it will be another greyhound. More specifically a retired racer. I am going to be looking for a big male with more than a few races under his collar. I've had a lot of foster hounds in the past, and it has been my experience that the big boys who spent a couple of years at the track are more laid back than most of what is already a bunch of calm, quite and appreciative dogs.
Save a life. Adopt a greyhound.

A friend of mine had two rescued greyhounds - they were lovely dogs who seemed to have only two speeds, 'full' and 'couch'.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
