I have to profess ignorance on interest rates in other countries. Here, you haven't been able to touch that kind of interest rate in a savings account for a very long time. Nor in a money market, certificate of deposit, or any other account where your principal is guaranteed.

Oh come on, man, I won't let such sloppy thinking pass from the Jeebus freaks, what makes you think you're gonna get away with it?

I don't have a million dollars. I do have a fairly decent minority fraction of it in retirement savings, though - and the best I can do without putting principal at risk, or tying up capital for more than a year is a lot closer to 1% than 5%.

To get those kind of returns, you have to go to bonds and equities, with all the risk those entails.

I'd be happy to be wrong about this. I'd be able to retire before I die.

This is a savings account with a minimum start of 100€ and maximum of 500k€. After 10 semesters (5 years), you're making euribor 6M + 2.2%

If they do this for as little as 100€, imagine what they'll do for a million! (1USD = .75€, according to google, at this moment, so $1m = 750k€, a bit more than the maximum allowed for that sort of account.
Above 500k€, you need to talk to the manager... no online info.

I'd likely update my wardrobe. Buy a bunch of soccer jerseys, in particular, since I like that sport.

I'd donate to causes I like, such as cystic fibrosis and public media (particularly radio, as in KEXP, KURE, KMHD, and others).

And I might travel, though I'm not completely sure where. Internationally, I have only ever been to Calgary and Tijuana. I'd love to go all over Canada, including Calgary again. But Sweden and Denmark also interest me, as does Cape Town, the Dutch Caribbean, Japan and New Zealand.

In Cape Town and southern Sweden, and maybe northern Denmark, I'd want to find some footy matches (either men's or women's in Sweden).

But I need to keep health and mobility in mind for all that. As I get older, both get worse.

With a million dollars I'd buy stocks in Disney Pixar and a chunk of gold. Then I'd sit on em. Then I'd go buy a house that's self sufficient with solar panels, a solar car, and use the rest to live on as long as I can.
