Saudi Arabia criminalises domestic abuse

Saudi Arabia criminalises domestic abuse
I somehow missed that story. 4 Days ago the Saudi cabinet (which means the Saudi King) aproved of legislature banning physical and sexual abuse both at homes and at workspaces. I am pritty certain that this is the last country on the globe to put this legislature in place. As far as I know most European countries put such legislature in place during the 1960s and 1950s. So I think it is fair to say that Saudi Arabia is 50 to 60 years late. The legislature is in accord to sharia law which still makes it a piece of trash.

On a sidenote; The Quoran is the official constitution of the country and therefor:

Quote:Verse 4:34

Men are guardians over women because Allah has made some of them excel others, and because they (men) spend of their wealth. So virtuous women are those who are obedient, and guard the secrets of their husbands with Allah’s protection. And as for those on whose part you fear disobedience, admonish them and leave them alone in their beds, and chastise them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Surely, Allah is High, Great.

the legislature can be argued to be "unconstitutional" by people in Saudi Arabia.

Ups!

I guess that happens when one does not pay close attention to the forum for a few days.

Technically there is no law preventing women from driving in Saudi Arabia. I think this new "law" is not so much for the women of the country as it is PR to the rest of the world.
