Yes, of course, but the actors still convey a certain "presence" in the characters they play. Jack Nicholson, as an actor, has that presence. Tom Cruise does not.

Heh. I think the film's biggest flaw was the way it put Cruise's character in a corner from which the only way out was to do so, and a twist ending where he fails would have undermined the whole film. So you knew how it would end. A great scene, but something of an anti-climax.
