/b/ is filled with kids. it's not nearly as scary as you think. 4chan's music board is very deeply rooted in sarcasm, irony, post irony, memes, baiting, general obliviousness, trolling, saying other people's music sucks. It's also how I acquired an amazing taste in music. I'd link my last.fm but people from the board can google search this and it will appear in search results.
My other, way more intelligent friend on facebook, who can have serious philosophical discussion, is telling me about "the singularity" in terms of computers and someone named Ray Kurzweil. Does anyone have the slightest idea what this is?
I got a definition "Well the surface definition of the singularity is when an ASI reaches the point where it can improve upon its intelligence, repeating the process until it reaches the point where it (along with humanity) accelerating the the point where un aided minds can no longer keep up with the rate of progress and the progress will be so dramatic that no one right now can fathom it"
"we'll find out that existence itself is nothing but a mathematical computation, we'll use that knowledge to manipulate time, space and reality to our will. we will create new universes both organically and in the metaverse. consciousness and life will live on perpetually. Conscious beings, who once began life as a human, will expand beyond and experience reality through the minds of higher conscious beings. before that happens though we'll have plenty of time to enjoy being human in the metaverse, in virtual reality and the fleshnet. everything, and I mean everything that has ever happened has had a reason, a purpose, we're all tired to the string of time, of evolution. every action and thought moves forward time and progress, we are all one, computational organisms of the universe. "No matter where you go, we're all connected" - Lain"
I want to read this "The Singularity is Near" by the Ray Kurzweil guy. I asked my friend if they were siting sources of information in their paragraph they wrote, they kind of didn't answer and mysteriously went offline. I loved reading her tell me about this stuff, it's really fascinating. I was saying that it's fascinating to think about the parts of reality we can't sense. I think artificial intelligence would be the most astonishing thing I see in my lifetime, at least as a precursor to what proceeds it. This "singularity" of technology really does make my imagination about the universe expand. My friend was talking about how spirituality has been perverted by religion, but Ray Kurzweil is making spirituality a technological thing. Experiencing imagination is beyond what you can read in words.
