Installing Linux mint cinnamon on my new Thinkpad. So far, brilliant! And I don't even have to install 20 things to have my desktop not look like shit
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable." - Maryam Namazie

Well, shit. The phone interview never came. I'm hoping that they're going to call over the weekend since they've peeked at my LinkedIn profile and know I'm working so not easily available to just disappear for an hour.
On the brighter side, I finally managed to select a pocket watch, or actually two. This one: ![]() And, this one: ![]() Had to put a bunch of others on my wish list. I could build quite a collection of these things. ![]()

Getting my camping gear together, it's 10 degrees, so I'm roughing it in a field this weekend.

Went cross-country skiing this morning. Had a great time but lost one of my mittens, probably back at the clubhouse or in the parking lot on the way out.
When I got home I played my alto clarinet for a while. Wednesday night band is currently working up "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott, trying to get it up to mm=168 in cut time, for a community band festival in late April. A recurring riff in the low notes is coming along nicely, and I've also made progress with some leaps to places that alto clarinets are simply *squeak* not meant to *squeak* go. I think it's almost time for a coffee outing. When I get home I have to go best-out-of-three-falls with Holst's First Suite in E Flat for Military Band. ![]() |
