Those of us who have been noticing that I've been complaining about my copy of Pessoa's Book of Disquiet taking really fucking long to get to my house, from arriving in Waukegan over a week ago to going to York, PA, for some reason, then back to DuPage county, it's finally made it to my home, about 13 days after I ordered it.

Also, at Half-Price Books today, I found Dembski's Intelligent Design in the fiction section. Someone has a sense of humour. At least a better one than that one time a couple years ago I found Night in the fiction section.

Could be worse; could be Chicago weather. One day a couple weeks ago, temperature managed to go from "Goddammit this is hot" to "why didn't I bring my leather jacket, it's cold out here" within the span of an afternoon. Now, it's just hot.

Well, I survived Saturday morning band practice just fine.  A new player showed up and got assigned a 1st Clarinet binder, so there were two of us covering the lead part.

Dropped off my music gear at home, then took all the cut-up lumber to the recycling depot.

Picked up a laminated panel from the bargain section at That Weird Swedish Place.  It's going to be cut down to fit my stereo cabinet, because I need another shelf for my CD collection and the cabinet only came with two shelves.

Bought a new ligature, the clamp that holds the reed in place on a woodwind mouthpiece, to kit out my "summer" clarinet.  (I use my Yamaha 250 student clarinet Clara II for outdoor gigs because it's made out of plastic rather than wood and unlikely to crack when I'm playing outside on a hot day.  That's Clara III, a Yamaha CS-V, in my avatar.)

Pulled a bunch more nails and started a new wood pile beside the garage.  Made a batch of inari sushi (nom!)

I think it's time to go annoy the nice folks at the bookstore/coffee shop for an hour or two.

Ah, that explains what happened when I was there last August.  I got a "Goddammit this is hot" day the day of the Air Show, got lost trying to figure out one of those multi-level bridges down by the river, but finally got where I was going and ended up on the lower level of an Architecture Cruise tour boat, sweating profusely and drinking beer while trying to catch a cool breeze off the river.

BoT, We just finished laying a section of sidewalk ("we" meaning my son, who can pick up large sacks of concrete, like I used to be able to do), and dug a trench for the footer for a strip of blocks "one high" to retain the mulch we are going to use in the front yard. Old man with a bad back working concrete.  This bit of landscaping is going to be the last of it. Any more, we are hiring professionals. I need to get in the rain locker, bad.
