When I was a kid, Mum would occasionally wake up with various aches and pains, she’d dismiss by saying she ‘slept wrong’. I remember thinking How the feck do you sleep wrong? Sleeping is the easiest thing there is!
I get it, now.

Welp, it's serious enough that I'm in a hospital bed getting IV pain meds and muscle relaxers. Waiting for imaging to be read but it's looking like a compressed nerve.

The spinal surgeon says he thinks it is almost certain that I need spinal surgery, they need to do more imaging (MRI) to be certain. Looks like I will be returning to the USA for treatment. The health care and such is great here, but I can't self-fund spinal surgery.
Just got back from Dragon Star foods. I used to shop there a good bit because they're a lot cheaper than my local Asian grocery, but they don't allow backpacks in the store so I have to make a separate trip to shop there.
Relieved that the storm left us fairly unscathed. We moved lawn furniture and other things from the yard and it's a good thing we did as the wind was wicked. It knocked a large planter over that was filled with soil and the remains of a plant I am sure I killed shortly after planting it. Somehow that pot fell over onto the glass table it was on and neither broke.
Checked my car when taking out the trash this morning and peered through one eye hoping not to see hail dents, and didn't. Thank goodness.
Power flickered once or twice but otherwise not as awful here as they predicted....and that's a good thing. We just forgot that we needed to restart the washer and dryer when the power came back on, but no big deal. Of course, the back yard is partly under water and there's lots of gooey, black clay soil that I don't want the dogs dancing in. UGH.

Something I never expected to see:
Unhide for backstory:
In 1990, Bret Easton Ellis was readying to have Simon and Schuster publish American Psycho. Then the Fire Nation attacked! And by Fire Nation attacking, I mean that it became really fucking controversial. So, they pulped it, and eventually Bret Easton Ellis had it republished by Vintage Press, a publisher that only does paperbacks. So, except for a stupendously expensive limited edition from Centipede Press, it's never had an official hardcover release. Meanwhile, I found out about a publisher called Gyan Books. It's a print-on-demand company based out of India that seems to be very flexible with copyright law. I ordered a standard hardcover reprinting of American Psycho for less than $20. I expected something vaguely like this, except with Patrick Bateman's mug competing for space with everything in this image:
I had bought copies of Journey to the End of the Night and No Longer Human from them like that. But two months after ordering that, I found that they decided to do something different. They went the extra mile. They seem to have painstakingly rebound a newer copy of American Psycho (indeed, one from a new British paperback edition published last year), given it a "Deluxe Edition" binding, and not charged me a single penny (or, technically Rupee) more.
