Just got home from donating plasma. Picked up some buns on the way and a $6 tub of kimchi pickles somehow found their way into my basket. I'm having a near beer -- Samuel Adams "Just the Haze" NA IPA. It's good, though you can't completely hide the lack of alcohol. Unfortunately, I'm not a big IPA drinker.

I got a compliment on my new, lemon-yellow Crocs today. Being single color, I was anticipating fewer comments than the tie dye ones. And the chili pepper ones arrived. They're more eye-catching in person.

My kid taught me that one a couple of years ago.

Well that was 30 minutes of my life wasted that I'll never get back. You can't trust anything anymore. I just received a call, and the caller ID said it was from the bank, and the number was my bank's customer service number. They told me that there was a $1500 payment transfer pending which I told them was fraudulent, and they proceeded to ask me to enroll in Zelle payments and add an unknown number as the phone number under my name in Zelle contacts. It was at that point that I knew it was a scam. They then tried to time pressure me by saying that if I didn't act, the payment would go through and that there would be nothing they could do to reverse the charges. So I hung up on them, but called my bank directly to inquire as to whether any such payment transfer was pending, whereupon I waited 15 minutes on hold. I'm glad I didn't get scammed, but the whole thing has just disrupted my entire morning routine.

Sitting and waiting to hear the news regarding a loved one's surgery who is 1,000 miles away has to be one of the most stressful ways to spend time.

I finally got the speakers I bought at the beginning of May set up on my computer desk. They kick ass. I've gone back and forth, thinking I spent too little (the Audioengine A2+ are better, but $100 more), and thinking that I spent too much (these are the next step up from Edifier R1280BT's which are $50-75 cheaper). Now I'll do my best to just enjoy them and try not to think about it too much. In hindsight, they're an improvement over piping my music to the living room speakers, but not so much that the $275 spent was essential.

I received the second light therapy lamp I ordered. It was a cylinder rather than a flat tablet. As a result, sitting on my desk, it created so much glare reflecting off the computer screen that half the screen was unreadable. So I returned it and they had a used, like new one of the tablet kind that I already have. After $7 in points back from prior purchases, it was $20, which I had in credit at Amazon. (I set aside $160 of Amazon credit for August birthday gifts, but no need to spend all of that on gifts -- I can make up any deficit when I order the gifts in August.)

I'm assembling a cat. I don't think it will turn out very well, I got it at IKEA.
