What's everyone up to right now?
RE: What's everyone up to right now?
Just made my appointment for my "Welcome to Medicare" health checkup. WooHoo! Livin' the dream.

Thankfully the doctor I have been seeing for about six years is who I will be seeing for this, so we won't have to start from scratch.

While driving to the library to pick up a hold, I discovered that something was wrong with my car: the key was stuck in the ignition. Normal hacks didn't work, so we had to send it to CarX to fix it.

Opening my new coffee maker. It's a good bit shorter than my old one. Given my poor discrimination in taste, I likely won't notice much of a difference, but new stuff is always fun.

Making my first pot of coffee in my new coffee maker. It brews at a considerably higher temperature than my old coffee maker did.

How was it? I’ve found that brewing coffee at a higher temp tends to make it bitter.

There was a slight bitter note, but it's a new blend so I don't have anything to compare it to. The wags on Youtube say the claims of greater bitterness at higher temps are baseless.

The wags on YouTube can kiss my bony Irish bum. The science behind this is well established.

After a lengthy back-and-forth of sending documents, I received notice today that my application for citizenship in the Republic of Lithuania has been provisionally approved.

I just have to bring the physical documents to the consulate in Los Angeles to get formally approved and be issued an ID and passport.

Yeah, my father's side of the family is from there. There is a repatriation program for people who were displaced (and their descendants) during the period when Lithuania was part of the Russian empire and later the Soviet Union. I have no intention of living there, but citizenship opens up opportunity to live in the EU.
