Listening to Q on the radio, and as a result very eager for Richard Reed Perry's (Arcade Fire redhead) solo effort.

Watching the new Cosmos series with Neil degrasse Tyson on Netflix.
I have to say that while Tyson is a first class popularizer of science, and probably a first class astrophycist as well, he comes across as being a rather narrow person when he advised his audience to abstain from philosophy because "it could really mess you up". Really, Neil, you think people should become scientific drones who do science simply because they were told science works, and remain oblivious to how science fits in the larger picture of human self reflection? Science is built ground up from Natural philosophy and epistemology. It seems that both of them think philosophy is an outdated source of knowledge. Indeed most of philosophy is outdated but at the same time same for science. Philosophy just has the most baggage and least testable claims. But that is the purpose of philosophy, to explore what is not testable or analyzable. Scientist do not concern themselves with ethics for example because ethics are not testable. Philosophy on the other hand has an entire branch just for ethics. Ut supra, ita inferius

Whenever the "Staff Log - Bannings, Reports, and Other Actions" thread shows up in the New Posts feed I always have this moment of panic thinking they're banned me or given me a warning of some kind...
Then I figure I would have received some kind of notification from the staff of an impending ban or warning and I figure I'm just pining for my days on this Harry Potter forum where I more than frequently found myself on the wrong side of the mods...
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
I was just on that thread as well. I figure I'd just be signed out or something.
As for now, listening to community radio on the web and FB chatting w/a friend

Stressing about my car AGAIN. As soon as I can afford to trade this car in, I will. It is costing me so much money.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Still awake. Insomnia last night, unusual for me. I shall crash out at some point.

"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
