Reuters has a slightly different take on the story than the Free Patriot blog, which, if anyone hasn't guessed, is a right-wing, gun nut, site.

Russia’s senior Islamic clerics warned the country’s leaders on Friday unrest could erupt in Muslim communities in Russia and beyond if a court decision ordering the destruction of a interpretive translation of Koran is not overturned.

It appears to be a specific translation into Russian that is under fire.

It's about frikkin' time. Hopefully this will catch on with other countries. The problem in the U.S. is our freedom of religion, but Islam can easily be recognized as not a religion because of the violence it spreads throughout the world.

This idiot sees a time (around the year 2076) when the U.S. population will have a Muslim majority. These fruitcakes will vote a bunch of cleric nutjobs into congress and into the White House. They will toss out the Constitution and replace it with Sharia Law. Those of other religions will be killed off. This WILL happen because today we are pretending to be too civilized to do what needs to be done. I want the Islamic Organization (not a religion in my book) wiped out. I don't care if all Muslims are shipped off to where they belong, or are exterminated. It MUST be done to save humanity from certain annihilation that these lunatics will bring about in the name of Allah.

In order to save the world - they MUST be eradicated. Wiped out. Killed off. But, since we won't do this. Humanity is doomed.

In an unusual court ruling, the “October” district court in the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, on the Black Sea, that the “Meaning of Qur’an” in the “Russian Language” is “recognized as extremist”. After the ruling the Russian court made a bold move to ban the Qur’an from Russia and not allowing it to be translated or distributed in Russian. They also recognized possession and distribution of the Qur’an as extremist.

They also are harking the attempt to ban the Hindu texts several years ago when Russia was still a communist country. This also prompted Muslim Clerics over the weekend to demand the court reverse its stance and warned “Global Unrest and Uprising” in the Muslim Communities world wide if the Russian government did not meet their demands.

Not all see this move as over reach by the courts. Some are calling the move a bold step in ridding the country of Radical Islamic Terrorists. Khloponin, a member of the leading party in Russia (the CE) even stated that they are more then happy to pay for the deportation of those who wished to be ruled by Sharia law.

My position is clear: anyone who does not want to live in Russia according to Russian, secular laws, should not live here. For them, there are states in the Middle East, go there and live”

Banning the Qur'an would also require them to eliminate services based on the Qur'an, which would mean to close down any mosques in Russia.
And I guess they need to revoke the autonomy of a few number of muslim autonomous territories within Russia.
I don't think that Putin will go as far as that.
But if he does, well, every action has a reaction and I'm sure he being the smart guy he is, analyzed his position.
This somewhat aids my agenda to be honest, further alienating other dominantly muslim ex-soviet Turkic states, if it is indeed real.

You're confusing the religion with the people who call themselves muslim. The religion hasn't changed forever and it's one that teaches its followers to conquer and convert infidels but a lot of muslims (in secular countries) no longer believe in that or practice that (the conquer part, converting most of them still do), I know diehards like you would say that they're pretending so we'll let our guards down and then they'll strike. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories.

Having seen first hand the political side of Islam, I do find the need to ask muslims what exactly is it they believe in and I would debate them if I disagree. It really depends on who you talk to, some would defend child marriage, some would think it's awful and aren't aware that their religion champions it. Some are very muslim in all appearances but behave and believe in secular values. Then there are those that identify closely with the quranic teachings and are openly antisemitic and antigay and anti transsexuals, the strategy isn't to kill them off but to sell our ideas to them.

MFM, sorry I should've said that the religion that teaches children to treat infidels differently. It's in the Qur'an and many muslim children are still told that they should never marry or date nonmuslims unless the nonmuslim convert.

I don't think that censorship is the right thing to do. Ideally we can all be adults and call people out when we disagree with them. I'm not sympathetic to the religion and its teachings.

It's not ideal, no. I think the key to solving the issue lies with bettering education. I don't disagree though that Sharia law definitely infringes on civil liberties; hopefully the ban is only temporary.

the only way to destroy religion is to make an law that forbids the parents to stick their religion into their children's young naive brains and let them decide what the fuck they want to believe. Because if you were taught something by your family you will defend that idea and there is an very small chance you will change that idea (yes you can find some who abandoned religion even if they were raised in an such environment). The best think would be that they would start teaching evolution and pointing out that god's existence isn't logical. But this day will never come,the only thing I wish is that religion should stay the fuck away from politics and I don't give a fuck what others believe

I think the way to destroy religion is to show disdain for their disgusting ideas and let them keep the benign ones. I think it's horrible that kids are born into religions. And then all of them told that if they leave they'll burn in hell. But you can't limit what a parent says to a child. You can only keep it out of schools and when you hear parents doing that tell them what you think of what they're doing. I have no qualms about telling a "religious child" I think his god isn't real. I think we have a lot of tolerance for this in society, not as in we allow them to, but as in we make it socially acceptable because it's a little awkward to discuss these things, many even facilitate and lie to kids as well so they don't get into trouble with the parents. Why? We discuss politics with people who don't agree with us all the time.

I think it's very hard to get numbers, especially for Islam, about how many actually stopped believing in the religion. But fundamentalists do get out of the religion, I personally am good friends with one. The problem is when they do so, others may not believe that they're really a nonmuslim now. They say no, once you're muslim you're forever a muslim. I don't think that helps matters, I'm not saying that's what you're saying, of course.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that when the time comes the majority of Muslims (extremist or not) will be 'faithful' to their religion. When two candidates are campaigning for a seat in government and one is a non-Muslim and half sane, with the other a fanatical lunatic Muslim, the faithful will vote for the lunatic Muslim.

It IS going to happen.
