The Governor of Kentucky

The Governor of Kentucky
blasts McConnell and Paul over Obamacare.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/27/opinio...nted=print

Quote: Kentucky is the only Southern state both expanding Medicaid and operating a state-based exchange, and we remain on target to meet the Oct. 1 deadline to open Kynect with the support of a call center that is providing some 100 jobs. Having been the first state-based exchange to complete the readiness review with the United States Department of Health and Human Services, we hope to become the first one to be certified.

Frankly, we can’t implement the Affordable Care Act fast enough.

As for naysayers, I’m offended by their partisan gamesmanship, as they continue to pour time, money and energy into overturning or defunding the Affordable Care Act. It’s shameful that these critics haven’t invested that same level of energy into trying to improve the health of our citizens.

They insist that the Affordable Care Act will never work — when in fact a similar approach put into effect in Massachusetts by Mitt Romney, then the governor, is working.

So, to those more worried about political power than Kentucky’s families, I say, “Get over it.”

The Affordable Care Act was approved by Congress and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. It is the law of the land.

Get over it ... and get out of the way so I can help my people. Here in Kentucky, we cannot afford to waste another day or another life.

So, okay...my question is: How did a Democrat get to be governor of Kentucky?

It's a border state.

During the American Civil War both the leader of the Union (Lincoln) and the leader of the Confederacy (Jefferson Davis) were born in Kentucky and it was never part of the Confederacy.

A lot of people think of Kentucky as Deep South but it ain't.

Here in Germany we have a term that is "Stammwähler" which could translate to "patron voter".

A "Stammwähler" is a person who has not and probably will not change his political ideology in years and is likely to elect the same party for his entire life.

Traditionaly conservative, socialist or other parts of our countries which have constantly voted the same people into power are considered to do so because of "Stammwähler".

Yet in recent years, our country started to go through a development of which some people say that it means the end of the "Stammwähler"

Traditionaly conservative ereas started voting leftwing, and leftwing ereas started voting conservatives. The population demographic has changed and certain parts of the population are no longer in need of idiology or party structures.

The arguments have started to be the determening factor here and more and more voters want to be convinced and not vote out of tradition or klinging on to an ideology.

Maybe the end of the "Stammwähler" is coming to the US?
