During the 19th century, catholic churches all throughout northern Germany were sacked and the property of the catholic church in the states of Prussia, Hannover, Hamburg and others were confiscated by the protestant royalty.

In this and the last century the catholic church demanded and got reperations in financial form for that which they had demanded (the irony, considering how they see most of the past as irrelevant especialy when it comes to burning witches).

So the catholic church of Germany is rich. And really big time fucking rich. Which is the actual scandal here, during the course of the revelations coming from Tebarz Elst it was made public that a vast amount of Bishops and Cardinals have luxurious limousines and estates.
