Why are you engaging in a debate with yourself?
Persecuted, hah. When's the last time you heard of a kid receiving hateful invective and being kicked out of his or her house by atheist parents because he was a Christian? When is the last time you heard people on the radio and TV insisting that you were an agent of evil and implying that violence against Christians was acceptable? In which state does being a Christian legally prohibit you from holding public office?
You don't know what persecution is, you entitled motherfucker.

Not as long as you proudly refer to yourself as a "catholic," butthead. Try hard to figure out the connection, huh?

I am no more responsible for my atheist neighbor being a wife abusing jerk than any Catholic is for another Catholic raping someone. Yes, the Catholic church is hypocritical - show me one single person alive who does not have some measure of hypocrisy within them. I don't think it's possible. I do dumb things sometimes when I'm driving, but it rarely prevents me from cursing other drivers for doing similar things to those that I do. I realize that the spotlight is hot on the faces of all Christians because of their purported god-given morals, but human is human. I'm not defending irrational thinking, fairy tales and delusional dogmas; I'm just being the voice of reason as it pertains to our human similarities (both good and otherwise).

To be fair, Rondee, criticizing, insulting and making fun of someone's beliefs on an online forum isn't really persecution.
Being hunted, outcast & hung drawn and quartered for being homosexual in places such as Uganda is persecution. Being forcibly evicted and often genocided [sic] for not being of the same religion/ethnic/cultural background as someone else is persecution.

I'm just going to say this, and step away: if the level of persecution you're used to is mean comments on an internet forum, not only are you extremely lucky, but also insanely insulting to those humans who face real life persecution. You should be happy that nobody is indulging in the level of persecution your own church has, historically.
Bam.
You know, if ever I feel persecuted - a very rare occurrence and I hate that word being over used - I go and talk to a Jewish friend. Now she and her family know what persecution is all about.

No, a poorly dressed, gay, black, jewish woman who is a closet atheist in a abusive relationship with a Russian Zion denying nun knows persecution!

There is all kinds of persecution. I don't see any specifics to the definitions:
per·se·cu·tion
ˌpərsəˈkyo͞oSHən/
noun
noun: persecution; plural noun: persecutions
1.
hostility and ill-treatment, esp. because of race or political or religious beliefs.
"her family fled religious persecution"
synonyms: oppression, victimization, maltreatment, ill-treatment, mistreatment, abuse, ill-usage, discrimination, tyranny; More

True, but being called a poopy pants on an online forum vis having your family held at gunpoint while your hand's are chopped off for bowing to a different (or no) deity (as one example) is not really a fair comparison.
After all, nobody's beliefs are sacrosanct. As soon as we start down that road, well:
It should be noted, too, that on here (that I've read), I can see nothing that warrants theists playing the victim card. Nobody forced you to come here, and nobody is forcing anyone to stay.

Here's the thing, though. The really important thing, that so often gets missed with all these shrill cries of persecution: the hostility isn't coming because of your religious beliefs. You're mistaking the content of the conversation with the reason behind its tone.
The fact is, every last one of us can demonstrably show christians that we talk to quite civilly, who are our friends, our family, people whom we, somehow, manage to treat perfectly neutrally despite our, apparently, persecution of christians. So what's clear, here, is that it isn't your religious beliefs that are causing the reactions here. We can look at it like an experiment; we have evidence that "religious belief," is not the variable which is causing hostility here, because it can't be applied consistently.
Therefore, it must be something else. I'll let the people actually engaged in this tell you what that is.
