So if you're like me, you need a scraper but sometimes the car is iced over. This seems strange in southern NC, but we do get a lot of ice because during the day it's too warm for real precipitation like snow, so everything melts, and then at night it freezes over. And because people are dumbasses down here, they never lift up their windshield wipers to keep them from freezing to the car.

Anyway, I always keep a mini can of de-icer in my purse. This helps for locks and stuff - and I keep an emergency road kit in the back with the scraper.

Brush the snow off the top of your car. No one likes the asshole who gets up to a reasonable speed and lets it all fly into the windshield of the guy behind him.

Get up 15 minutes earlier so you have time to turn on the car and let everything defrost.

On weekends, try not to do anything until later in the morning - that way, if the day will be warm enough, the roads will melt and be safer. Our biggest worry here, like I said, is black ice.

Also, it doesn't matter where you live in the country - if the weather channel announces a large storm - even if it's just rain - people raid the milk, bread, and toilet paper. We live in a nation of fucktards.

Get you some gloves with the electrosensors or magnets or whatever in the fingertips - it's worth it if you have a smart phone and don't want to take your gloves off to answer a text.

I prefer a lined trench that covers my ass and is rain proof - a warm coat is shit if it's sleeting and gets soaked. We get a lot of wind, so anything long enough and wide enough to be double breasted and protect your thighs is great.

Invest in hats. A hat and scarf will help with warmth immeasurably. I know a lot of women in particular hate wearing them because it messes up their hair, but then again we have a lot of skanks that wander around wearing nothing but hooker clothes when it's 20°F around here, so sometimes I give credence to the idea that women really are the dumber gender.
