Because of course, they are the only Christians that pick and choose the parts of the Big Book of Multiple Choice they follow. Undecided

Course not. The big book of multiple choice is contradictory and you can find bits to support almost any position from genocidal bastard to the highest form of altruism. But that's the point. Zen badger said that they are the ones most closely following the bible. I don't think that's true, they are just more closely following certain bits of the bible.

According to the bible, Jesus spoke on homosexuality exactly NO times. Paul mentioned it once or twice and it comes up in the OT a couple of times in context with sins like gossiping, adultery and suchlike. Whereas the NT in particular (which is what separates Christians from Jews) has plenty to say on the topic of not being a judgmental asshole, and indeed lots of other sins. Thus A church which has focussed its entire ministry on that one topic, homosexuality, and largely ignored the rest ( cannot really be said to be MOST closely following the bible. Just fixating on the bit that its leader has an issue with.

That's all.

Enough is enough.

Laws aren't written in stone either. I don't see how a law that ensures right to bury loved ones in peace would backfire.

Very sadly, I can. Thin end of the wedge and that. Although the fat bit of the wedge is already in place.

I wonder if anyone legally harrassed the WBC as it does to others, would that make an impact? Would they understand their douchery?

I, for one, would love to see them sue somebody for harrassment and have it thrown out due to freedom of speech.

"Anonymous" have harassed them plenty. And quite effectively.

And there was this moment of pure beauty
"
A US punk band have protested against theWestboro Baptist Church by filming a pornographic film on the organisation's front lawn. As Spin reports, the group Get Shot – who also run the porn site Get Shot Girls – posted a message on their Facebook page saying they wanted to "cause controversy" with the video and claimed that the church do nothing "except spread hate". The NSFW video, which has been obtained by Gawker, depicts bassist Laura Lush masturbating on the organisation's yard. No representatives from Westboro Baptist Church have commented on the stunt as of yet.Speaking about the video, Lush said: "The Phelps family and Westboro Baptist Church are ridiculous and do nothing except spread hate and cause controversy. As a bisexual woman and the bass player of a ridiculous punk band, I wanted to spread my legs and cause controversy."Her bandmate JP Hunter added: "There was a lot of traffic and we saw a few cops at a coffee shop a few blocks away. We barley had enough gas money and cocaine to make it to Denver for our next concert. Since we can’t afford bail, we had to cut it a little short before the cops got called. If someone will bail us out, we will bring a group of girls and a whole camera crew when we come back in a few months."

Apparently they emailed Wbc to ask for the cctv as they thought it might have captured a better wide angle shot.

it's not about decency. They're harassing people, and it's a very narrow law, the slippery slope argument is really moot because I looked online and Bush already signed a law that makes it illegal to spam someone anonymously online. So you guys (are you american?) are already there, why not put one in that'll actually be good for the people?

ETA: Do they work? Or do they live off the church completely? Why would anyone want to work with them?

I sense- Jedi sense tingling - a dog in need of an AK. Wink

The legendary society of "we" built a society in which "we would rather let a thousand guilty men go free than prosecute a single innocent man;" yet how long must "we" suffer "their" guilt?

Let a single man among you who is without sin cast the first stone and verily I say unto you, I do not have that sin.

Perhaps psychopathy yet does have a role in society, but i wonder, am I your monster? Thinking

Just a thought, if a bunch of atheists turned up to Crouches funeral and held up signs saying he was a thieving sack of shit.....

How far do you think their first amendment rights would stretch?

I don't know I was really drunk at the time.

Wondering of a society whose unapologetic members may act as avengers.

To make things clear -- I hate the WBC, Fred Phelps, and everything they stand for. That being said, I agree with the SCOTUS decision concerning the free speech issue and the WBC. There are established buffer zones and laws about actually disrupting funeral services. The WBC does make a point of staying within the bounds of the law.

There are people who have left the WBC and they have demonstarted that below the indoctrination -- they are human beings. I made a video on the subject a while back that pretty much sums up my views on the WBC:

I think that if they were Muslims, they would be moderates.
