Am I missing much?

I don't think I'd drink much alcohol if beer didn't exist.

Blush

Thanks, FFF's wife!

A while back, I had a profile on OKCUpid, where I messaged this guy whom, I swear, was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen. I was intimidated, but he's a counter-culture, steam punk, ren faire type of guy, and the life I lead overlaps that a little.

Despite my intimidation, I sent him a message: "can you make me a fire hoop Wink?"

He wrote back: "no, but I can direct you to someone who will teach you how." or something to that effect.

And I said something like: "that'd be great, but apparently I fail at flirting."

And then this happened:

I am, at the very most, an inadequate flirt... at least when I think I should be flirting. All I can think is that guy thought, "I don't know this girl from Wilson on Home Improvement, and she's already trying to put me to work for her," and I was thinking, "this is a good opportunity to mention something we have in common."

Flirting failure: me.

Sorry, TEGH, for the hijack Smile

Hey Earl, what kind of teas do You drink? Maybe your sort of preference there can transition into a liqueur? Strong flavour? Not a fan of potent alcohols (like 40%)? Then maybe choosing from a selection of beers will do? A link: http://thehourfortea.wordpress.com/2011/...r-drinker/ But, perhaps beer is not your thing.

To all those who hate the smell of alcohol and/or taste of beer - Irish cream. Drink some irish cream. It tastes like a milkshake, has more booze than beer, but is hard to get drunk off of since it fills your belly right up (which can be a good thing!). A tasty, cheaper alternative to Baileys is Carolans.

Rumchata is good too. Not irish cream, but something very magical nonetheless.

The thought of me drinking something that messes with my mind just grosses me out. And the smell of the stuff, yuck.

Am I missing out on anything worthwhile? Really, the only reason I myself might want to drink is to fit in better with friends.

I'm 37, within a few days of 38. I didn't even start drinking until I was about 24.

I admit, I like the taste of beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages. And, I enjoy being drunk. However, as has been said, I think it matters what company you are in the presence of. Otherwise, there's less to laugh about when you are drunk.

Nowadays, my digestive health is fairly poor compared to those days. Ergo, I haven't consumed a full container of anything for over five years. The most I've done is take a single swig of whatever I am crockpotting with. I prefer wine for that endeavor. But it doesn't matter what color.

37 / 38 is still fairly young. If you're actually having digestive health issues, that's something you need to stay on top of. I spent a total of 17 days in the hospital after having two major surgeries, (one of them being an emergency life-saving surgery), over digestive health issues last year. So when an opportunity arises, like this one, I try to make it a point to inform others about their digestive health.

Absolutely true. Those of us with spina bifida have GI issues for the most part. I did rather well as a kid, maybe due to my participation in athletics, but I've put on a ton of weight as an adult (5ft10, 233ish). I had a hard apple cider (I forgot about this) a couple years ago at a Marriott in Indianapolis, and it kinda...well...got things moving. No compromising moments ensued, but it could have happened.

ETA: an acquaintance of mine with SB actually died at 31 from a bowel perforation, IIRC.

Changing subject a bit: I like tiramisu. My favorite desert, I think. But what all is in it that is alcoholic? I'd love a taste on its own.

Dude, yes! I bought a cake of that from Loblaws for my grandma's birthday. Everyone gave it the thumbs up! It even had a layer of bitter cocoa powder on top, and coupled with the milky cream spread below, it was phenomenal! Literally the pastry version of ice cream!
Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die, and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

I like wine at meals, beer with friends in the pub and the occasional whisky/brandy/etc On some weekends

Having an addictive personality, I'm always carefull not to abuse alcohol. Coffee is my main beverage during thge week.
