RE: Phil from Duck Dynasty gets in trouble for being against homosexuality

I don't know why anyone would bash A&E because one of their employees has an opinion that they don't endorse. That's a good question. When a person's paid job doesn't have anything to do with an opinion they have, continuing to pay them shouldn't be considered endorsement of that opinion.

In this case continuing to have him broadcast on their network does not reflect well on A & E. If the dumb fucking redneck is entitled to his opinion so is the management of A & E.
I laugh when these fuckheads like Palin and O'reilly start whining about freedom of speech. No one is throwing his sorry ass into jail for mouthing off. But not being thrown in jail does not equate to keeping his job.
Walk into your boss' office and tell him he's a shithead and see what happens. I assure you that you won't end up in jail but you will be shown the door.

Well, as predicted, a complete joke. Ol' Phil is fully reinstated, since he's single-handedly supporting the economy of the State of Louisiana. Nice to know freedom of hate speech is alive and well in the South -- but hardly surprising.

Its a sad day for freedom when you can lose your job for paraphrasing the bible. Apparently tolerance for me but not for thee.

Do you enjoy the freedom of not having to be tolerant of someone's views?

Hasn't it always been possible to lose your job if you risk damaging your employer's reputation, especially if it's a contractual obligation (which is what I assume was the case here)? It's just that in the past it was much more likely that you'd be fired if you spoke up in favor of gays and gay rights, and today it's the opposite. On the positive side, I think that a lot of people who would have told those gay rights supporters to shut up (and would have applauded the loss of employment of such a person) are now more sensitive to the idea of network censorship.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
