Here's some more from me:

1) My mother loved West Highland White Terriers; she had no less than three live ones in her life, and a lot of Westie toys.

2) The closest thing to a relationship I've ever been in was with a girl in college. She was walking around school barefoot, and I just had to build up the courage to talk with her. We seemed to hit it off; she even let me take a picture of her feet. Sadly, a few weeks later, she apparently realised how I felt and told me "Sorry, but I'm gay." We met through the rest of the semester, and I thought we were able to keep it on a "just friends" level, but the next semester, she got more butch and didn't seem to have any interest in talking like we did last semester. From what I've been able to gather, she's currently based in London and may or may not have a girlfriend. I wish them the best of luck.

3) I sleep with the collected works of Salinger (plus two biographies), Dostoevsky's four major novels, some works about Stoicism, and at least two translations of the Dhammapada by my bedside, all in hardcover.

4) As a kid I wanted to be a zoologist; as the sturm and drang in my childhood increased, I became more interested in creative arts.

5) I recently attended a reading by Adam Levin, the author of one of my favourite recent books, contributed a blurb that said it was "the only novel released this decade worth reading." When I saw him, my first thought was "Damn. I thought you were taller." He autographed my copy of The Instructions, and said, "Thanks for the Blurb."

6) I spent one year on the Junior Varsity of the Academic Bowl in High School, Three on regular Varsity in the same sport, and three years on my college bowl. Year 1: I was the #2 guy on the team. Year 2: I was the captain. Year 3: I was the whole team. Seriously, I went as my college bowl team solo and not only won the top scorer, I scored higher than at least four of the other colleges with proper teams.

7) My GPA went up a whole point as soon as I stopped taking Gym Classes in high school.

8) I was born the day after Taylor Swift, and I'm sure I look old enough to be her father.

9) I've never been west of the Mississippi, and I've only been west of Gary, IN twice in my life.

10) I have no interest whatsoever in any sport that involves a ball.

11) I write right-handed, and play guitar left-handed.

12) Whenever I'm told to say something random, I say "Happiness is smoking hash from a human skull."

13) I've researched plans to create a bomb that releases a gas that triggers sexual arousal in anyone exposed to it, and detonate it at the Republican National Convention, ideally leading to a massive orgy in the middle of the event, like in the climax of Perfume. Sadly, I was unable to find any gas that fit the qualities. Oh, well. Maybe in 2016 we'll see the Republican TV Orgy. It'll certainly be more entertaining than Clint Eastwood pretending to be Bob Newhart.

That's funny. I've been all over the United States, except the Northeast. Which is odd because I love big cities. Some of my roots are in farming, and I'm torn, because I love farm life. The hardship. The simplicity. The directness. But the city is in my bones. I've got family here, so I doubt I'd move, but the idea of living in New York City, or Tokyo, or Shanghai, just sends shivers to my toes.

I was born in 1942. My mother died when I was a baby. My alcoholic father tried to kill me when I was a baby, twice, because he thought my difficult birth caused my mother's death. I am also a Black Belt alcoholic (dry through A.A. for the past 28 years). In fact all the males in my fathers side of the family back to when we first arrived in Australia were alcoholics. We lived in a rat infested slum in a criminal infested inner suburb. I still have the scar on my face where a rat bit me in my baby crib.

I was taken from my father very early in my life and bought up by alcoholic aunts from my mothers side of the family- in the same slum. I am essentially uneducated. My aunt used to throw me out of her home regularly on the weakest of pretexts. I was living on the street begging and sleeping rough at age 15. From then 'til now I have fended for myself with help from no one. I should add here that I earned a living by thieving for a couple of years in my late teens.

In fact I was in jail with a broken neck resulting from a car crash chase at 19. In the same incident, that happened when a night watchman chased our car after a burglary, one of my fellow thieves, the driver, was shot dead and another badly wounded by the watchman.

I cleaned up my act in my early 20's, joined the army, married and had two girls. My wife divorced me in 1976 because of my alcoholism. I never re-married or “lived in sin” again. Both my girls are also alcoholic, one was also heavily drug addicted.

Unfortunately both of them are drinking at present. My youngest daughter ended up prostituting herself for drugs. Apart from the usual health issues that go with that lifestyle, she ended up a paranoid schizophrenic and bipolar. My oldest daughter is a very successful dog trainer who, despite a 6 year spell in A.A., decided she can now drink “socially.”

I worked in communications for many years. While on secondment to our Department Of Foreign Affairs and Trade from Civil Aviation on an overseas aid project, I was recruited by one of our intelligence agencies to do short term missions in third world countries. It was during the last of these I cracked up and decided to stop drinking.

At age 49 I started and ran a very successful comms business for 6 years with a Southern Baptist business partner. He bought me out and I retired at age 55. I am what is known down here as a “self funded retiree.”

Most of my body organs are beginning to fail as a result of the gargantuan amount of alcohol I drank and the cigarettes I smoked (I gave them up 23 years ago) but I hope to get another 5 years or so. I have also been impotent for about 15 years (in the end it was like trying to force a warm marshmallow into a kid's money box!) so you could say I'm just a crotchety and reclusive old bachelor that a good fuck and a green apple would kill!

I live very happily with my two best mates, Dasher and Gus, two beautiful English Cream Retrievers in the hills just north of Melbourne in the state of Victoria. I suppose I am a bit of a misanthrope because any more than a hour of human company a day really pisses me off.

Lots of other jaw dropping circumstances and events happened in my life but I thought youse guys would hardly believe this lot without me embellishing it even more!

I've shared it hundreds of times at A.A. meetings, including at "public awareness meetings" which are open to the general public. My old A.A. sponsor taught me an invaluable lesson; "you are as sick as your secrets." My life is, as far as it can be, an open book. Naturally there are certain things in my life that would harm others, and myself for no worthwhile purpose, if I repeated them publicly.
