Americans: Do you favor switching to the metric system?

I grew up in the UK, and I use a mishmash of imperial and metric units. I drive 240km to Auckland, not 150 miles. I weigh 15 stone and 10, not 100kg, and so forth.

I doubt VERY much the Yanks will ever go metric, unless you count the increasing popularity of the 9mm bullet.

The Americans insist on being separate. They don't play either of the worlds most widely played sports. They have incredibly unsafe 2 bladed electricity plugs and use 110 instead of 220.

And ulike other OECD countries they execute people and don;t have socialised medicine.

In a perfect world, yes, but I work in manufacturing, and it would be an absolute pain in the ass. Sure, the conversion factors I have to use can be a bitch, but it's far simpler than switching over the whole process to metric.

Chas pointed out that Canada switched with little trouble, but Canada doesn't have the manufacturing that we do.

So I guess the exodus of American manufacturing to china is part of grand communist conspiracy to put us on the slippery slope of metric conversion, then.

I also have a problem with a 12 hour clock, especially at work when an old or stupid person asks for an advance ticket for, say, "7.30" and it seldom crosses my kind that they might actually mean "19.30" until I give them a ticket for the wrong train, which they don't notice either until on the day when they have to buy a new ticket because they have one that was only valid 12 hours previously.

Yes, we should use 24 hour time. One thing that really annoys me is 12 AM/PM.

WTF? AM means Ante Meridiem, before noon. PM means Post Meridiem, after noon.
12:00 midnight is both, 12:00 noon is neither.

We should say Noon and Midnight.

At the rare occasions where I have to set an appointment or an alarm at 12 (midnight or noon) I always forget which is AM or PM. Annoying!

Nah, we took care of that. We invented the colt 45 and 50 caliber rounds to kill people better the English, I meant non-metric, I meant American way.

Although I heard the Chinese use a 14.5 mm round that is even more potent than our trusty 50 cal. Damned metric commies!
