On the contrary, if the Bible has nothing to do with science, then "god of the gaps" is
all that it contains. The problem, of course, is that the gaps were both more numerous and much larger back then. Not so today, and god no longer sits comfortably in the clouds above and uses the Earth as a footstool. Now he has to duck behind his metaphysical curtains in his invisible apartment located somewhere in Neverexistedville.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

I don't see why Yahweh didn't see fit to tell the early Jews that the earth was round. If he was so scared that the flat-earth-believing common folk might reject his message, what was to stop him from raising his people up in a holy war against the non-believers?
