You're not very well informed then.

Kent Hovind, Ken Ham, Ray Comfort and hundreds like them all claim that the bible is a book of science.

Please remove your feet from your mouth before speaking. It will save you a certain amount of embarrassment in the future.

I'm partially convinced this is the case, but some other part of me thinks he's genuinely convinced of his rock solid case-'o-assertions, and just doesn't understand that we have a debate forum that I'm asking him to square off in.

On the contrary, if the Bible has nothing to do with science, then "god of the gaps" is all that it contains. The problem, of course, is that the gaps were both more numerous and much larger back then. Not so today, and god no longer sits comfortably in the clouds above and uses the Earth as a footstool. Now he has to duck behind his metaphysical curtains in his invisible apartment located somewhere in Neverexistedville.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

The Jewish concept of God would work with the universe as we understand equally as well as the universe as they understood it back then. No God of the gaps involved if the Bible never had anything to do with science.
So, if you don't reference the bible for any scientific information, you'd have no problem believing the universe is ~14byo, or the earth is ~5byo, or that evolution can occur, or that a world wide flood is impossible and that story was just an allegory, etc etc?

I'm asking this legitimately, since there are Christians who believe the bible is the word of God and follow it, but have no issues accepting the above as scientific facts.

I don't see why Yahweh didn't see fit to tell the early Jews that the earth was round. If he was so scared that the flat-earth-believing common folk might reject his message, what was to stop him from raising his people up in a holy war against the non-believers?

I understood your intentions perfectly. You're insisting that certain parts of the Bible are metaphorical or allegorical, but you're pointedly excluding God himself from this cherry-picking because you believe he is objectively real, and I'm curious to know if you have a single non-circular justification for this arbitrary decision.
