RE: Ok I admit it
But my parents and everyone I know are so so so so so so so confident it's true!!! I mean there has to be something more, it can't just be blind faith and wishful thinking can it? If so couldn't people just believe in anything?

That's part of being human. How do you think religion got so popular in the first place?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Welcome to the world.

How much evidence would you like that people do indeed just believe in anything?

People do believe in anything: just look at how varied all the different religious denominations and churches are. I can show you videos from a guy who is convinced- and I'm not kidding when I say this- that airplanes are demons wearing holograms. Seriously.

Faith is not a pathway to truth, and you've gotta ask yourself just why it is that religions prize faith above reason and evidence; why would they need to do that if they were right?

Indeed... people can believe in just anything.
That's why you find different religions, not just nowadays, but in the past.
Curiously, each of those (in the past) tend to be restricted to a geographical area...

It does seem like a cop out, but the thing is so many completely normal, rational, even skeptical people believe it, it's not just folks who will cling onto anything they so desire.

Two things to bear in mind: one, even the most rational person isn't perfectly rational, and they can be tricked if they're told over and over that an idea is true, even if there's no evidence.

And two? Those people are being threatened into believing, too.

Maybe you're right.

What do you think? Ignore every other person in your life, and focus on only the evidence you've been presented with: what does it say?

I just don't feel like I have the self-confidence to against everyone else on such a big issue.
