End of Prohibition Day!!

RE: End of Prohibition Day!!
I think it's the same here in Washington. You can get beer and wine in the grocery stores on Sunday, but the liquor stores are closed. They are ran by the state so I'm surprised they are open on Saturday. The bars close at 2am and the grocery stores stop selling beer and wine at 2am. At least that's how it used to be. It's been so long since I've been able to stay up past 10pm.

Here in Manitoba, we don't have a choice. We have to buy liquor from government-run stores, who happen to have shitty hours. They've gotten better in recent years (like moving the closing time from 9pm to 11pm at most stores) but it's still kinda lame, and they still follow crappy Sunday hours (Noon-6pm). You can, however, buy beer from designated beer stores as late as 2pm.

That said, at least it's legal to buy, unlike a huge number of safer, cheaper substances currently under prohibition.

No shit. I don't do drugs (except the persecution kind), but I think it would be in everyone's best interests if they were legal. All drugs. I was talking to my sister-in-law who is a nurse. She said she sees a lot of patients with health problems related to alcohol (the legal stuff), but has yet to see anyone with health issues related to pot. So smoke up everyone and be healthyBig Grin

Here in New York City they sell liquor and beer on Sundays but you can't buy it till 12 noon. But if you know some Dominican grocery stores in the area they will sell you liquor on Sundays anytime since they don't give a shit about the law.

And since it's NY you can pretty much find beer at least24 hours pretty much anywhere.

Liquor is available on Sunday in MA, that ended a while ago.

We do have crazy blue laws. In fact there is a law on the books for Blasphemy.

E I hate to tell you this but you are in violation of that blasphemy law lol. I wonder what the penalty is for that.

Oh really? That is interesting...

Me and my dad have always just thought it was a "bible thumper's" law, just due to it being on sunday.

You would think that the U.S. would have taken the lesson learned during the prohibition. When you ban a product that the people desire they will just turn to someone else to supply it, in the case of liquor it was the mob. lg there are alot of laws on the books that are actual laws instituted by bible thumpers.

I think I would lose my mind if I lived in the bible belt states.

They already have. One of my friends who lives in Kansas City told me about the wide-scale abuse of prescription drugs to just "get away from it all". In an area with a ridiculous amount of churchs per square mile in Missouri with a distinct apocalyptic twist, I can understand. Oxycontin is to Midwesterners as booze is to the homeless.

I'm glad I live in Romania, here you can buy alcohol whenever you wish.
Personally, it's not God I dislike, it's his fan club I can't stand.
