Sad christian brainwashing.

Sad christian brainwashing.
This poor girl has a tragic medical condition and with great family support she has cultivated a pretty good outlook and some happiness.
But unfortunately, the god con men have convinced her that her illness is a "gift" from god and that she should love it.. So pathetic how these theist shits will stoop so low as to brainwash the most vulnerable..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizzie_Vel%C3%A1squez

She is a Roman Catholic, and she has spoken out in terms of her belief in God who has "blessed me with the greatest blessing of my life, which is my syndrome".[6]

She's actually a great motivational speaker. Doesn't bother me if she's religious.

So it doesn't bother you that she has been brainwashed to "like" her disease?
Would it be ok to brainwash her into suicide like the heaven's gate nuts as long as she can speak well before the last day?

The brainwashing is the problem, not the poor girl. Her brainwashing to "like" having a skeletal face and damaged eyesight will probably prevent her from seeking the improvements and care that modern medicine and science can provide for her.

But hey, I guess you don't care if kids don't get medical care because of their god brainwashing... it doesn't bother you!

Easy, now. No, it doesn't bother me if she has found comfort in the form of religion for her terrible disease. I, for one, do not prefer to use god as a comfort blanket, but I don't fault those who might. And if you watched her speech, she talks about how having this disease has shown her who she really is on the inside, which she feels is far more important than what she looks like. I imagine that in her mind, the disease is the thing that opened her eyes to who she really is, and for that she is grateful. And since she's also religious, she says it was her "gift". I don't agree, but it doesn't bother me. She's found a peace some people will never know. Of course, this doesn't mean I'm pro-religious indoctrination, only that the faith of others doesn't inherently bother me.

The sad reality of why Christians do this is to "defend" God against attack. An almighty and all knowing "Creator" needs mortals to defend him/it? And by attack, a common argument that non believers give to Christians is that if God was "perfect" why are there illnesses, etc...why didn't he create a perfect world? (Just an example)

At first blush, it would seem like the people in this girl's life want to give her a different perspective and that could be, but it has more to do with wanting to promote Christianity.

They are nowhere nearer the truth than anyone else. The arrogance it takes to think you and your cult are "better acquainted" with God or "a god" than the rest of us, and if only we joined their cult we would be as enlightened, is remarkable.

Maybe God gave them arrogance as a "gift," too.

You avoided the main question, do you agree that the god brainwashing is detrimental because it prevents her from seeking modern medical help for her disease?

If she was diabetic, would you support her instilled religious beliefs to avoid insulin shots?

I don't deny that this may be the case with many religious people, but it's awfully assumptive to think that all Christians are like this. From my own experience, I know people who don't feel the need to defend their religious beliefs.

And why are we assuming that it's other people brainwashing her? Could this not be her own decision? I really don't know enough about it to say with any certainty that she has been purposely brainwashed for the sole purpose of promoting Christianity. It all seems rather cynical. I'm no fan of organized religion by a long shot, but I'm not comfortable saying this woman has been used and manipulated for nefarious reasons. She's gone through a lot in her life, it's not hard to imagine that, like many people, she uses religion for her own personal reasons.

Good grief. I do not support brainwashing of any kind. I'm just not so sure she was brainwashed. That's a word that I don't normally use for regular 'ol religious folks. Others might, but I don't. I would use it for creepy cults who have suicide pacts. That's not what this is.

And I don't "support" religious belief....I'm just not all that bothered by most of it. I think Jehovah's Witnesses are stupid for not getting blood transfusions. I am glad bad parents go to jail when they neglect medical care for their children. That's not what this is.

She's a woman who happened to find comfort in religion, and I don't really care about that. She's happy, I'm happy...whatever.

EDIT: And wait....where did you read she refused medical attention because she's religious? From the wiki, she's been to doctors and been diagnosed. So, I don't know where you got that.

I agree, good points. But, part of the indoctrination "process" for lack of a better word, is to teach a false sense of hope. Hope in humanity is honest and real. Teaching false hope is wrong, and promoting it as a positive is wrong. I grew up in the faith and the endless mantras were astounding, uttered by family members to comfort me during difficult times. I'd like to think they weren't brainwashing me, however. lol But, I don't believe in stripping people of their right to choose religion, if they wish.

oh! Why sure, she probably just woke up one morning and said, "Golly Gee Wilikers I'ma gonna pick me out an imaginary friend today!" After selecting several fictional children's books out of the library, she probably picked this one over spongebob -
[Image: 51REwnHFysL._SL500_AA300_.jpg]

After reading that I'm sure it suddenly came to her on her own volition to decide that her disease is a gift and she should love a imaginary skyfairy that made her so unattractive to other people because he'll give her gold and jewels in heaven for her suffering..

Really... ?

If I say that Washington D.C. is the capital city of the United States of America, and then go on to say that everyone who disagrees with me is wrong, would you consider me to be arrogant?
