Some say Jesus himself was a hippie. Hmmm.
Regarding the Bible being the errant work of man. I have read that, and my 'interpretation' is that when the 'books' were compiled, there were sections left out, and perhaps tampered with. One would have to believe that 'sacred writings' existed in the first place, but let's say we all believe that, for a minute. Considering that the Bible was compiled many years after Jesus' death, stands to reason, the ''story'' got lost in translation along the way.
Sure.. and scribes that copied from copies.. missing words.. or sentences. And adding what they thought they read

Exactly. People already believed in the Jewish concept of a physical resurrection of the dead and then arrives onto the scene a man with charisma and skill and a deeply philosophical/religious mind who creates this entirely new interpretation of that old Jewish belief. Then he dies and his followers, perhaps in their extreme grief, experience the usual mental oddities of "visions" and "appearances," which, when interpreted by Jesus' words and their particular brand of Old Testament theology, create new definitions that other illiterate Christians begin to take more literally. And viola! Enter zombie Jesus god.

That's what I thought he meant... but can someone explain to me how the "inerrant version," or the deeper truths conveyed by man's fallibility, are so poorly communicated that Christianity hosts some 30,000+ different sects and denominations who can't even agree on how to interpret these "deeper truths"? Seems to me like God's a rather powerless and inept communicator.
I blame the messenger
He's using a pretty crappy one. But that's what we have. You could have it perfectly stated. What would that benefit you? Genesis seems very well crafted in comparison to the gospels, but then you have very different styles of books.

What would that benefit me?! Well, if we are to accept one brand of Christian thought (the "orthodox" version), apparently quite a lot!
Genesis is well crafted as myth, not as some historical anecdote of mankind's past. Once you eliminate the notion of Original Sin as conveyed in Genesis, the apparent significance of the Jesus story falls apart too. This seemed obvious to St. Paul.

That's why I dont believe the bible was inspired by god. In the old testament god is very clear on what he says.. then in the n.t. he lets people write what ever they want.. and how can we not blame god for the the errors.

If you like mythology; Genesis is pure mythology.
