RE: Would any of you drive a car made by Darwin's ideas?

Boy, I haven't has this much mirth in a while. My origional post is based on the origional supposition of Mr. Darwin.
I confess I haven't paid much attention to the old fool since I heard about his theory in grade school.
As for constructing a god out of natural selection, anything that makes decisions is not a process.
By necessity, decisionmaking requires a mind.
A god would have a mind.
Therefore your god is natural selection.

I should have promoted natural selection to the status of a god, making it's decisions on what it wants to keep and what it wants to throw out. Very good.
You have gotten rid of that pesky god you didn't like, and gotten a new one instead.
Well done.
Apparently passing high school biology is not a prerequisite of an Engineering degree in your neck of the woods.
I hope you aren't building anything people depend on.

You don't know much about evolution?! I never would have guessed! hock:
To be clear, the theory of evolution has moved past Darwin a long time ago, anyway.

Are you just content to be a moron all your life? Who said natural selection made decisions? It's simply the name for the process by which animals that positively interact with their contextual conditions survive more often than those which negatively interact with the same. Natural selection no more makes decisions than the weather makes decisions when it's cold out.
For god's sake: actually know something about that which you are discussing. Does your god like ignorance and lies, "professor?"

Right, we get that you didn't pay much attention in grade school.
You also don't seem to understand the word "process," let alone as applied to ***********natural************ selection. Do us a favor, and take a night class at a community college, then come back when you understand what you missed the first time around.

professor, professor... you worry me. Natural selection does not make decisions, it just happens.
Let me explain,
Imagine the somewhat simplified scenario: two hawks are born, hawk 1 has a mutation which lets it fly a bist faster, the other doesn't. Cue 10 years later, hawk 1 has 30 offspring, hawk 2 only 10 because he wasn't able to catch as much food for the young ones. The number of animals with this gene increases slowly, while the other variety is slowly replaced over the generations. No decisions were made in the process.

"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Are you intentionally ignoring everything in this thread? Just because you need to anthropomorphize or deify natural selection, doesn't make that notion the truth, or even an assertion based even in the remotest sense on reality.
Natrual selection is not decisionmaking. It is no more a decision than the apple falling from the tree. (As has been pointed out previously, hopefully repetition will stonewall your willful ignorance.)
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Evolutionary algorithms in engineering programs.
Evolutionary algorithms in aeronautics.
Look all these papers on evolutionary algorithms in engineering!
This is what happens when you have no idea what you're talking about, but the strong belief that your ignorance is equal to the knowledge of real people. How embarrassing for you, "professor."
I think this post ends the discussion.

Natural selection doesn't make decisions, nor does evolution.
Please go back a page and re-read my explanation. You can't be this stupid.
