My views on Christianity ...

I too am against banning religion and personally although I despise religion I don't think it will ever go away. There are always going to be gullible, needy, and superstitious people that need to rely on something beyond themselves to get by in life.

I am not in favor of banning any religion, or lack of religion. In the United States everyone is protected by a freedom of religion and the only way to change that is to add another amendment to the Constitution, which I doubt will ever get added. Besides, Christians makes up the majority of the population of the United States and if people were to go around banning religions, odds are that everything but Christianity would get banned.

People need to have the freedom of religion because there is no religion that can be 100% proven; therefore, people should have the right to decide for themselves which religion they think is true. Even though I am pretty certain that the Greek gods do not exist, I would not be in favor of banning the worshiping of those gods.

About Godwin's law. While it works as a rule of thumb there are of course numerous examples where comparing a situation with WW2, Nazi Germany, or Hitler apply. I therefore do not agree with the premise that you automatically lose an argument when mentioning these. WW2 was a major historical event that still has an impact in current events.

Comparing something to any other thing is just a way to show similarities, differences, and equivalencies for illustrative purposes. IE: My computer is much like Hitler... in that it is made of atoms.

Denying people rights because of <where they were born/when/from whom> is a lot like the Nazi regime... in that arbitrary differences mandate an individual's rights.

If Godwin's law means only that comparing A to B does not make either A or B any different in nature: then i agree to the point. Who cares wether we are comparing A to Hitler or to my left ankle... it still doesn't change A

The needy, gullible, superstitious looking to rely on something describes the general populous. Suckered into whatever fools them into following the fashionable view and not thinking for themselves.

But not believing in any deities= one less thing to be suckered into so I have no idea where you are coming from...

Because you actually don't believe deities exist remember... you said yourself... God is "there" but you don't believe in deities and he/it doesn't actually 'exist'.

I still don't get how the statement I made applies to the non-religious. As an atheist I rely entirely on myself and my abilities to get by in life. I don't have any superstitions that I adhere to nor any remnants of my former beliefs.
