Doing something bold

Doing something bold
I have several times made it known that I dislike classic literature, mainly because I find following the style of writing bores me, and I always detested having to read what teachers wanted us to read. I much preferred it when we were allowed open reports where I could choose to read whatever I wanted, and then choosing a modern novel.

Knowing my dislike for classic literature, I invite you to recommend a book for me to read that you think would help me overcome my dislike for classic literature. If I have already read it, I will mention that. I will choose a book, not just the first one posted by a member, read it, and then report on it.

Free me from my ignorance!

I'm a sinner, I'm a saint

When you say "classic" literature, what do you mean? Only literature from antiquity, or would an 18th century work count?

Anything from before the twentieth century would count, I imagine.

Dracula (Bram Stoker) squeaks in at 1897 and is a fun read. It's very different - it's all in the form of journal entries, newspaper clippings, etc.

See what you think of Laurence Sterne's Tristam Shandy.
