The homophobia part I think would have less to do with a non sports related fall in the draft than the media distraction he will cause because of it. Football is one of those sports where a locker room can get dodgy because of the fact that the 4th round pick rookie is getting all this hype when there's nothing significant about him. Think Tebow and the Denver locker room.

Anyone who keeps up with NFL can you keep me posted, not seeing a thing.
He was absolutely not a first round pick, ever. He was a mid round pick the whole way. Idk where you're getting that info but it's very incorrect. I never once heard anything above 4th round.
Greatest thing since sliced bread? I'm questioning whether you even know what football is.

Watching NFL Network, Ian Rappoport is saying probably 6th or 7th round, or high priority free agent. Mayock is saying he won't get drafted. New England, Arizona, New York Giants, and Baltimore have expressed interest. He lacks the height for a NFL DE.
To put his combine numbers in perspective, these are the guys he was grouped with at the combine:
Code: Name School 40 3-cone Shuttle Vertical Broad Bench
Michael Sam - Mizzou 4.91 7.80 -- 25.50 114 17
Carl Bradford - Az Sr. 4.76 7.25 4.30 37.50 122 23
Prince Shembo - ND 4.71 7.29 4.31 38.50 122 26
Why doesn't the BBcode work?
Anyhow, his numbers at the combine, put up against mediocre edge rushers, are bad. His character is good, he'll be on a team, but he was never, ever highly touted.

What if he were Mr. Irrelevant? What kind of story would that have been?

Interesting situation for him to be in, as the Rams look to be pretty loaded at that position. It could work very well for him, in that he would likely be rotated in for a few snaps a game unless he proved to be good enough to start. There is no more pressure on him than there is on any other player just trying to secure a spot on the roster, so as long as he doesn't play terribly he should make the team.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Whatever else happens, I hope that he is accepted by his teammates and is given a fair shot at finding success. As an 8th round pick he's not likely to be a starter, but he's got a shot at making the bench.

Sam didn't do anything wrong. Fleebow was not an oppressed minority, do not equate Fleebow to this guy. Fleebow did that to himself.
And even without him being gay. I am 47 and in all those years I have seen plenty of top draft picks peter out and wash out and seen other later round guys go on to have long productive careers. Heath Shuller was supposed to save the Redskins, 19 million dollar mistake.
The only way this becomes circus is if homophobes make it a circus. Sam should be treated like any other prospect, do well enough you get a spot.

Shit, think about all the college players who won't even get that far. I think for this guy though, if he trains hard and studies hard, he seems to be a guy that will adapt. I think even outside sports, on any job, there is always someone overlooked because people look at what they don't do rather than what they can do. Darrell Green was only 5'8" and even back then that was considered too short for a player.
I did love his comment after the call where he found out something like "I was thinking after all those picks and teams who passed on me what I was going to do to their quarterbacks". HE HE.
GO SAM GO RAMS!

Again so? One day of numbers is a bad sample rate and assumes also that he cant or wont improve. And like I said in a prior post I have seen plenty of "highly touted" 1rst rounders do nothing and plenty of "no names" go one to make people go "who the fuck was that?".

Yea busts and surprises happen every year. But you're setting it up so that if he busts it's because he's gay. You're emphasizing his sexuality even more than what I saw on nfl network yesterday. But it's ok for you do to it because you're in support of him? I don't think so.
I look at him and see a football player. You're looking at him and seeing a gay football player that should get a shot because he's gay.
He will get a shot. If he's good enough, he'll make the team. If he's not, he won't. NFL teams generally don't give a shit about what players do off the field. All they care about is guys that can help them win.

BULLSHIT, skip the labels for a second. There would be no need for "first this" or "first that" if there were no other humans prior being xenophobes. I am not setting him up for anything. Think about any other minority in history like blacks and women who were the "first this" or "first that".
You are doing the same shit whites did to blacks when they first started breaking into pro sports. "We shouldn't make it about skin color". NO SHIT, and the only way to get to that point is for people like him to be open so that the next gay player won't have to go through the same shit. Just like blacks don't have to go through the same shit like they did in the 40s 50s 60s and 70s as pro players.
Seriously, you act like my former theist co workers. My former store manager said "I don't care about you being an atheist, I care about you". Bullshit, he used that as a cop out excuse to shut down conversation and avoid the fact that others were different than him. He never really cared about me, in fact I have been unemployed for 4 months now, not once has he come by to check up on me to make sure I am ok.
He is gay, that is part of him. No one bats an eye when a straight player kisses their girlfriend or wife. If you insist on him or me not making it an issue then be consistent and stop straight people from doing the same in celebratory situations like that. Otherwise you are asking him not to be himself in public. He doesn't owe you shit and your baggage is not his.
