To our resident Christians:
"God told me that something amazing will happen in your life today!" Well, I have a few questions for you Christians concerning this communication:
1) When god speaks to you, is it an audible voice? Could you capture it with a sound recorder?
2) If not, is it a voice in your head?
3) If it is indeed a voice in your head, are there any means by which you can be CERTAIN it's not YOU talking, and simply wishing really hard it's god? Can you verify that this voice in your head can not possible come from something else?
4) Is the communication in English?
5) Does god have an accent?
6) Or is the communication from god just some sort of warm, fuzzy feeling you get?
Now, consider that god does not talk to atheists. Would you consider that this is because of a strong conformation bias? Would you say that this may be because in order to "hear from god" you must delude yourself into thinking he exists, then you suddenly start making up a voice in your head and saying it's god?

whenever I was a small child, every one always would talk about this...I remember when I finally figured out that god actually doesn't literally talk to you...He shows you signs...in the bible. Super disappointed.
Whenever I was a christian, god never spoke to me...There were verses that happen to be a similarity of what was going on but that is about it.

In all seriousness, this was something that bothered me a bit when I was a Christian. I never "heard God" in any meaningful way, and I often wondered that if I felt something strongly if I could know it was God or just me. I remember wondering if I heard an actual voice in my head if I would question it or accept it. I was always skeptical of those who said they did talk to God.

7) What about Satan? Have you ever heard the devil or any demons talk to you?

Double bonus points: if Satan is "The Deceiver", how can a Christian ever be sure that the voices they hear/feelings they get aren't Satan? If they can't know, then they need to reject anything they hear/feel. If they can tell, due to magical Holy Spirit sensors, or something, then The Deceiver is pretty bad at his job, and I don't know why Christians go on about how dangerous he is.

You can't have it both ways: either communication with supernatural entities is extremely unreliable, or Satan isn't anything to be worried about.

Very good question, since apparently even the devil can quote scripture. I've even been told on this august forum that my alleged comunion with God (telling me he doesn't exist) must have been with Satan instead.
