One downside to research agreements - if you end up going to war with the person you have the agreement with, you lose the $.

I don't usually use them.

It can be better to just focus on science buldings and wonders yourself, but the RAs are a viable alternative.

I'm absolutely dominating with my economy now, I'm producing well over 100 gold per turn and I'm only just in the renaissance. Seems good to me, my culture is suffering though. Seems like an age since I last updated a social policy and my citizens are the least happy in the entire world. Oh well. Money sounds better.

Use that money to buy off cultural city states for a nice boost in culture.

RE: Civ 5
So I thought I'd take a few screenshots of my current game. Not sure if anyone is actually interested but here's how it's panning out:

This is the peninsula I started on. I had no other opposition here and could basically build my first four cities freely. Something about this map is just so awesome. Everything just seems to be in the right place, and the right size, Athens is in the north, Sparta in the south, even Argos and Corinth are in roughly the right place (I think). But yeah, basically this is my version of Greece as it were.

As you go further south over the little land bridge you see that I'm connected to a larger continent. Here is where the Persians used to hold sway, until I forced my way through. Rhodes and Macedon used to be Persian cities, but I've since renamed them. As you can see the Persians are just clinging onto their last remaining city in the south. I'll deal with them soon enough, but as you've probably noticed, I'm gearing up for a war with my newer neighbours the Siamese to the West as of right now. Just look at all my units. It's fucking glorious! No way am I fucking up an invasion this time round. The Siamese recently denounced me and they actually had control of Pasargadae until I wrestled it from them. So, with that in mind, I'm focusing on them at the moment. Also notable is that I took Monaco at the request of Singapore, they put up a decent fight, but they succumbed to my attacks eventually. All in all, things are shaping up pretty nicely on my this continent.

Here is the small island just to the west of my starting peninsula. I took cape town quite early on and have had the benefit of stockholm's friendship right throughout the game. I was eyeing up florence for a takeover, however they are just a bit too far out of reach for the time being. Especially when I have the Siamese knocking on my door.

And here's the second continent in my game, you can't really see it all but it's basically shaped like Africa. You can see the Egyptians are beasts over here, that great wall just looks epic. Especially with so many desert tiles. Really makes them look majestic. The other two factions here are relatively small and to the north.

So yeah, that's what's happening in my game at the moment. I am currently friends with the Iriqious and have a research agreement with them but everyone else bar the Aztecs have tried denouncing me at some point or another.

I might post some more screenshots a bit later on if people are interested in seeing how this plays out Big Grin Sorry for the mammoth post btw guys, I'd put the entire thing in hide tags but it won't seem to let me put one hide tag inside another.

Just got done winning a domination victory. Ended up it was just me and the Egyptians left. I had to nuke 'em like 6 times before I could take their capital. Nukes are definitely not as powerful as I was expecting in this game.

I'm thinking of starting another game now, I'll probably play as the Egyptians myself and go for a cultural/science victory. I will try out a fractal map as I saw a youtube video showing the different combinations of maps you can have and that one looked like one of the best.

I've been craving for a Civ 5 game but I just haven't had the time. I don't like to play unless I have at least 2 hours spare.

Did they have a bomb shelter? That will make it more difficult.

FYI, nuclear missles are considerably more powerful than nuclear bombs.

Against cities, you're going to need more than one nuke to reduce to to where you can take it easily - however, the real power of nukes is to not only weaken cities, but to also destroy surrounding forces. When I launch a nuclear attack, I usually hit as many cities as I am able to in the first salvo - oftentimes that cripples the enemy military to the point where I can take their cities at my leisure.

Ahh I didn't know that missiles were that different. I only used bombs. I think I only just discovered rocketry upon winning the game.

Also I'm not sure they were using a bomb shelter, I nuked 3 cities and they all dropped around the same amount of health. Maybe they were all using shelters but I doubt it.

*edit* Another thing I realised, subs can't attack land. Kind of makes sense when I think about it but it really pissed me off because most of my navy was made up of subs and nuclear subs. I launched my first assault to find that half my navy was ineffective Facepalm The thing that made it worse was that the Egyptians didn't even use a navy! There wasn't a single ship I had to destroy. I had about 8/9 subs and they all just sat there.

I haven't tried out the death robots yet. Are they as fun as I would hope they'd be? I should probably just start a map in the nuar power age, and rock everyone with it.
