Presumably, until the serpent came along the only commands they received were from god. Thus, there isn't any reason to think that they needed to be able to discern right and wrong; god determines what is right and wrong. All they needed to do was obey.

I am assuming that she convinced him, but you're right-- the account simply states that she gave him the fruit and he ate, as he confirms when god questions him. That is more in line with him being used to doing as he is told and not needing convincing.

The line in the NT makes me wonder. What did Adam know that Eve did not? The story only tells us that she gave him of the fruit and he ate. Paul claims that Adam was not deceived, but the account gives no detail. And Adam and Eve are equally judged and punished, so did it matter that one was deceived and the other was not? If it didn't, then I think it reinforces the point that unwavering obedience was the key, not whether they understood the magnitude of their actions or not.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

How do you know that is the original story?

This shit is constantly edited throughout history.

Wow. So, according to your interpretation, Eve was essentially blameless, having been deceived whereas Adam was guilty as fuck because he knew better and did it anyway. Yet, your gawd put the guilty party in dominion over the blameless party. That is quite simply too fucked up for words.

Of course, it does start making sense when you consider your gawd was also down with forcing rape victims to marry their rapists.

The gawd described in the old testament is one sick mother fucker!

Oh, if you're trolling: they will know.

Not that I'd know how they know.

I don't know about anyone else but if I did believe in an omniscient, omnibenevolent being I would be pretty ashamed that he is playing with things that obviously have much more intelligence then him(it)-self. Why would it even pose a challenge if he (she,it) already knew what the outcome would be. I would hope my god would be alot more intelligible with the games he would play. Like dungeons and dragons or something.

Have you never played through a short power fantasy, enjoyed it a bit, but then got bored? Surely an 'absent creator' is no different.

Agree. Why would "any" subsequent author write that knowing it doesn't make much sense. Maybe they left it cryptic intentionally so as to be open for thought for all the fools to read it and think there's something "deep" and mysterious there which needs a lifetime of analysis to understand!
