Reaction to extra-terrestial life.

RE: Reaction to extra-terrestial life.
I'd be highly skeptical.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

How can they not have philosophy of some kind? But I don't think it is necessary for them to have anything we would call religion.

Theists are too egotistically driven to admit that there might be other "intelligent' life in the universe.

They like to think they are special only unto their imaginary friend.

Within the realm of Christianity, I think a lot of discussion would take place revolving around the question of wether or not these extra terrestrial beings are endowed with a rational soul and are thus receptive to the Gospel. It hasn't been 500 years yet since the Catholic Church was pondering the question of wether or not Native Americans were actually humans (had a rational soul); I think something similar would take place if we end up discovering intelligent life in some other planet.

Yet even during times when theists thought of others as "less than human", there were still real humans who knew better.

Armed with guns and small pox, Christians had leisure to smugly speculate about whether christians were better endowed than their fellow men by their fictional creator. Confronted with aliens thousands or millions of years in advance of us, I think all Christian has time to do is bleet bitter about why their nonexistent creators had forsaken them, perform a few pitiable gestures of devotion in vain hopes of reclaiming favor, and then disappear into oblivion as the rest of the mankind comes to grips with how nonexistent are the powers of divine in the face of the powers of the temporal, albeit extraterrestrial.

I can see where you are coming from Chuck. Not really sure what to think, I hold strong to philosophy however I am seeing more and more irrelevance of religion and even more so believing in some invisible deity. So you might be right.

There's really no reason to assume that aliens would have "philosophy" of any kind, nor that they would be technologically advanced. Not even if they showed up here. We're imagining a very specific sort of alien when we imagine a machine builder and a thinker. It's a very "human" sort of alien. That's a great mirror for considering aspects of ourselves - but it may also explain why we so often imagine that sort of alien not to "come in peace", why we imagine human misery and impotence would follow it's arrival. After all, that's what happens when human beings show up with "better boats" in our history.

Indeed, humans are very conceptual based in our thinking. I think like most cases fact will be stranger than fiction.
