What is the point of Heaven?

RE: What is the point of Heaven?
Always?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Your silly bible has precious little to say about it.

And what it does is fucking ridiculous.

It's ridiculous to you but, obviously not to everybody. From what it does say about it, I want to be there.

I'm a former Catholic, so I'll give an answer from that perspective.

Essentially, what you are asking is "why did God made us?". A short answer would be this:

God made us to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.

Heaven is not really about "servitude" so it shouldn't be pictured that way but rather as the possession and enjoyment of eternal bliss. This bliss consists in the beatific vision of God or in other words, the intellectual beholding of the ultimate Good, which is what we all long for in this earth. The degree to which each individual beholds this good depends on their merits. Hell on the other hand consists in the denial of this vision as well as any other spiritual good and, of course, corporeal punishments.

The caricature that is usually made of people bowing to God for eternity in heaven isn't really accurate.

The point of heaven is to give those who don't know how to live, hope for a better future, but of course this is all in vain, if you haven't lived here and now, then bad luck..

A curious statement, considering that according to the Christian view, it is by properly living this life that one gets to heaven.

It's another way to control believers.

Heaven's the carrot. Hell's the stick.
Dying to live, living to die.

No, they like to believe that but no, its not proper living at all, there isn't anyone in the sky watching you and taking record every time you do something wrong, this is living in fear, masked as living in freedom.

RE: What is the point of Heaven?
It is almost as absurd as hell. A lot of repetitive burning or worshiping. The creators of this fiction could have got a tad more imaginative to create better rewards or punishments. Suffer and burn forever and ever or sit around bored and suffering forever and ever. Both are Prisons.
