I loved Unsolved Mysteries with the old creepy guy in the 80s/90s. Damn, when I was a kid I thought he was the one that did it all and was taunting us with his Unsolved crimes. American Justice and Forensic Files were also well done, but I'm having a hard time finding any that run anymore. Do they exist?

Not sure what to tell you since your first sentence pretty much ruled everything out.

I personally like Bones, Rizzoli & Isles, and Cold Case, but after reading your first sentence, you've pretty much ruled everything out, so um? I don't know what to tell you?!

RE: What are some good crime shows?
Here's one idea for a show I've been thinking about; calling it America's Least Wanted, and have it be about re-enactments of crimes where either the criminals were dumb (, the cops were extremely stupid, or the crimes were just plain weird.

I've actually covered a few stories like this for my weird British Crime column.

Dumb Criminals:
  • Criminals try to pass off blocks of ice as iPads.
  • Blind man leads police on 85 mph car chase.
  • Drunken revelers confuse policewoman for a stripper.
  • Man breaks out of Lancashire jail because there's too many Lancastrians and Liverpudlians there.
  • Hyperactive Wild West fan threatens electrician with toy gun.
  • Convicted burglar sulks about pictures of him being taken, blocks his mother for objecting.
  • Man steals fishtank, returns to the scene of the crime minutes later to buy fish for it.
  • Man with a plastic bag on his head robs a convenience store with a cell phone.

Dumb Cops:
  • Man found guilty, but let go because the jails are too full, and the bus to the prison doesn't run on Thursdays.
  • 16-year-old not allowed to buy spoons due to the law.
  • Police mistake a remote control in a person's home for a deadly weapon.

Weird Crime:
  • Two criminals break into a bakery in the middle of the night for some quiche, and start a five-hour standoff.
  • A riot breaks out when a 99p store cancels their half-price sale.
  • A singalong of "Ding-Dong The Witch is Dead" leads to domestic violence.
  • Man stabs his son over a bacon sandwich.
  • Cross-dressing conmen fleece seniors of their savings.
  • Cat burglar goes on panty raid... specifically, a tabby burglar.
  • Swans commit hate crimes against university students.
  • Mugging foiled by a parrot.

All these really happened in Britain since June of last year. And there's more I have yet to cover.

I like a lot of the fictional stuff too, but I enjoy true crime much more for some reason. There have been some truly whacked criminals and murderers out there that I like hearing about. Guess I have morbid interests. I'm actually going to give this ID channel a shot, and see how their shows are.

If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.

If your looking for non-fiction crime stuff... I'd recommend I Almost Got Away With It. It's has dramatized reenactments but so did Unsolved Mysteries, so you might like it.

Disappeared is also a good one. Pretty much anything on ID Discovery. Lots of forensic based shows too... I like those a lot.

Medical Detectives/Forensic Files has been a favorite of mine. I knew a police homicide detective featured in one episode. There was a paperback book written on his case and I got him to autograph my copy.

Shows like The First 48 drive me crazy. Watching people hang themselves because they can't remain silent or say, "I want counsel."
