I don't care if the term is an urban legend or anything else. The fact is that faggots were used to burn people at the stake and that included gay men and women, and is a term of abuse used against gays much like 'nigger' is used against black men, and equally unacceptable.

When gardening, I often bundle sticks and branches into faggots for burning. Never once has my homosexual neighbor complained.
