Boo. This thread has a misleading title.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Maybe this is insensitive but, if you don't want nude pictures of yourself to exist, don't take naked pictures and put them on your computer. Not sure what a cloud is, but I'm assuming it's connected to the internet in some way, if not then maybe my objection is a bit off base. However, you can't really expect privacy online when it comes to pictures online, everything on the internet is forever on the internet. Once a picture of you is on the internet, in some ways it belongs to the internet and that bothers a lot of people.
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.

Keep them goalposts steady there, bud. Have any of these stars killed themselves over this, anyway? If you're arguing that the photo accounts being hacked caused the suicidal depression, then I revert to my prescription to not put the photos online. The easy solution means it's pretty much a first-world problem, to me. (September 1, 2014 at 7:40 pm)Bad Wolf Wrote: First world problems, doesn't literally mean 'first world problems'. If it did, then many people in the third world would have first world problems. First world problems is simply a phrase we use when commenting on complaints about minor things that are just slightly annoying or awkward. Having nude pictures of yourself stolen, copied and distributed across the internet, is neither merely annoying or awkward. Thanks for the pedantry, Captain Obvious. Myself, I think it is indeed a first-world problem. I've already explained why. Additionally, having nudes of yourself circulated are no big deal. We all have the same tackle, after all. That is a third world problem. As I've already posted, the reason why I think the whining of these stars is a first world problem is because there is a simple solution to it: don't put your nudes online. The reason why starvation is a third world problem is because it is not amenable to easy solutions, and it kills millions of people annually, unlike Mary-jane Rottencrotch's Photobucket getting hacked. Perspective. Try it some time. Have any of these stars killed themselves over this, anyway? The goal posts are exactly where they should be. None of these celebrities have killed themselves over stuff like this but ordinary people have. A first world problem that leads to death isn't a first world problem. (September 2, 2014 at 7:27 pm)Thumpalumpacus Wrote: If you're arguing that the photo accounts being hacked caused the suicidal depression, then I revert to my prescription to not put the photos online. Thank you captain hindsight. However, in this case with the icloud, photos automatically get uploaded, so they didn't deliberately post them online. (September 2, 2014 at 7:27 pm)Thumpalumpacus Wrote: The easy solution means it's pretty much a first-world problem, to me. So you define first world problems by how easy they are to solve? Well I guess that starvation is a first world problem then? Since it's so easy to cure. How about disease, they still have polio in some countries in africa, but its so simple and easy to prevent. Whereas I judge problems by the outcomes. Starvation and disease are third world problems because they have serious consequences, mainly death. (September 2, 2014 at 7:27 pm)Thumpalumpacus Wrote: Thanks for the pedantry, Captain Obvious. Well then, I expect you to post nude pictures of yourself to all your friends and family. Well I disagree, I think starvation is a third world problem because of its effects, not how easily its fixed.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House “Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom "If my good friend Doctor Gasparri speaks badly of my mother, he can expect to get punched.....You cannot provoke. He was trying to say to Bad Wolf, 'let's start over and not be enemies.' Anybody else see that? That's not an easy thing to do and I think it is a good quality to have. Just sayin. |
