In the defense of religious people, the majority have been bombarded with indoctrination from an early age. They are forced to "learn" about the "truth" of religion before their brains are capable of thinking critically. As they grow up they are then surrounded people who reinforce the delusion on a daily basis. Not a lot of people are able to (a) think clearly enough and (b) be strong enough to stand up against this later, with all this going on. And their hopelessly brainwashed state makes it that much harder. Especially as there are all sorts of fear tactics and punishments (death in extreme cases) for those who even question religion.

My point being, I prefer to hate the religion rather then the people who have fallen prey to it. I do share your passion to see organized religion purged though.

Friend and foe alike die and we have never stopped being the same species. Instead of hating other groups, hate concepts and claims and behaviors. Anger and hate can be very justified, but how you express it matters.

Our species has always displayed the same range of cruelty and compassion, atheists also are not a separate species.

There is no such thing as "purebreeds", trace human DNA back far enough we are all related. And there are other atheists who have economic claims I hate and others who have si fi woo and other superstitions. Ultimately we are still all individuals.
