This is all very interesting Kyu and Allan, I just thought I always heard that even though really really weird aliens could exist, its more probable that organisms on other planets would find similar solutions that the organisms on this planet did.

There is no one solution for walking about, see all the various forms available on the Earth!

True but the most advanced are bipedal ... maybe that's luck, maybe it ain't but it seems to me that evolution is driven by anything other than "luck" ... in other words there's a good reason why we are the way we are (and I ain't talking intelligent design).

I'm afraid I have to disagree. There is no such thing as "more advanced".

We are how we are because of the steps we followed to get here, as far as I am aware most larger organisms are mirrored (ie: same on both sides) . If the first "mirrored" common ancestor was actually 3 or 4 waqy symetrical then the subsequent generations would follow that pattern.

And, when it comes down to it, there is probably no criteria you could choose for our "advanced-ness" that wouldn't be beaten by another organism!

What's advanced is what us humans consider to be advanced. Aliens out there might perhaps think something that is to them advanced but we would think of it as more simplistic. But on other things we'd perhaps agree.

Good point I guess leo. I've just heard that other planets might evolve to have similar solutions that life did on earth. But I guess also there's the possibility that other planets in the universe that have life on them might not even have the DNA code! They might have something else!
