Because I would rather not discuss my identity issues with such a rude and immature crowd. I think identity disorder is "bad for you", yes. But it does not carry fault, it is not my or SAE's fault. We did nothing wrong, but I suppose it is difficult and dangerous, so it is kind of "bad". It certainly is unpleasant. If you don't want to discuss it, fair enough. I didn't realise you were talking about yourself. You just mentioned Saerules' gender identity issues and made it seem like you were "against" them like you are drugs / tv, etc. Thanks for clearing that up.
Quote:Quote:What I think pisses people off Pippy, is that you come into these threads and act like you have a PhD is whateverthefuckwearetalkingaboutology from the university of Ijustmadeallmyfactsup (I think it's in Russia).
I am not trying to sound like I have a PhD, but only trying to share my opinion like everyone in the conversation who came before me. If I come across as full-of-myself, than I apologize and will try harder in the future.
As I've said before, opinions I don't mind. It's people with opinions who seem to want to force their opinion down your throat as if it is *ahem* "gospel". Backing up your opinions with arguments, and presenting evidence for anything you assert is a good start. Most of us here left religion because we found no evidence, and were met with just bare assertions and hearsay, so you can understand why we don't like people to just state something as if it is fact without the slightest shred of proof.
Quote:Quote:You say you "feel deeply obliged" to inform us that pornography, of which I suspect you know little about as it is (you certainly don't know anything about video games or tv...or 9/11 for that matter), is bad for us. You do this with a tone that comes across as condescending at best.
The 'deeply obliged' thing was misunderstood. I don't mean that I have information that is perfect, and I feel the need to inform you of the right way. I meant that I am very tired of being 'the crazy guy that disagrees with everything' (you even made up an insulting award for me to win), but for porn I feel moved to add my opinion, knowing you guys will not like it. I actually know a lot about porn, unfortunately. When I was a junkie I had a very unhealthy relationship with porn. Very unhealthy. But I got over it, and have spent a lot of time chatting with porn addicts, learning about that paradigm. I also volunteer with survivors of incest abuse, that is a dark world. I feel that I also know a lot about TV and 9/11 and video games, but certainly not more than yourself (I wouldn't want to offend).
If you are very tired of being the crazy guy who disagrees with everything, I put that an atheist forums wasn't the best choice you could have made. We are skeptics, rationalists, and empiricists (mostly). We value reason, not superstition, and we do not abide conspiracy. When your opinions are as strong as they are, you will find disagreement in most places online. I think the only thing we seem to agree on is government transparency.
I'm confused about this award I made up for you to win though. What are you talking about? You won the Most Opinionated forum award by a vote. I didn't set it up for you, the staff just came up with a few ideas.
You may know more than me on TV, 9/11, and video games. If what you say is true, then evidently you do know more. The problem is that when asked to provide evidence, you skip around it. On the 9/11 issue, the disagreement goes deeper, since evidence has been provided, but I think it has been refuted. The problem is that both sides have massive amounts of contentions on various issues, and it takes too long to go through every single one.

Apparently biological mix ups happen more often than we hear about.
And i have never heard of such a method of parenting... a link regarding it please? Some parents actually set out from early stages of parenting to make sure their child is free to be themself. This link is about parental choices during the prepubescent stages of development.
I had really only heard by word of mouth of parents who are as holistic as this, but it must be a parenting style if it's being 'adhered' to throughout childhood!? Intriguing... i wasn't aware that such parents even existed :S Thank you for the link
Zhalentine Wrote:Just a question, how do you know you're a female? Do you have any evidence or do you just think you should have been born with a female body? Depends on what you mean by evidence...
A scientifically tested hypothesis that has been proven to hold true for me? Well... no :S I honestly have no idea how i could even come by such evidence :S
And do I think i should have been born with a female body? If "I" had been born with a female body... then "I" would be an entirely different individual. I like who I am, for the most part But now I would like a body that fits who I am... and the means for this are available enough to me. The only barrier for me beginning the transition is the non-ownership of my jurisdiction :S
So no... i do not wish I had been born biologically female... but i do wish I could begin transition now :S I only have 'evidence' in the form of my personality and self identity... but that is far more than enough for me.

LOL, I like how he felt the need that he had to point out that he was kidding!!
I consider male and female to be a biological thing. Identity is different. I think you can be male with a female identity and vice versa but that doesn't change the biological fact of which sex you are.
@ Pippy, it's a shame that you feel bad for being a winner of the Opinionated Member award. You aren't the only one who one the award, me and Chatpilot did equally come joint first place too. And I can't speak for Chatpilot but I can speak for myself when I say that I feel honoured
The description for the award was it was given to those who have strong views and/or need to make it known as often as possible. I consider both of them to be virtues

Biology defines us as much as we define ourselves for the most part.

For the most part yes... biology is originally the sole definition of our lives... but from there it becomes less and less definitive of who we are as our experiences contort 'us' in myriad ways through the rest of our life. It all depends on the initial person, and how much they have been contorted over the years, as to the extent biology defines us. In some cases... so many contortions have occurred that one encounters extreme difficulty seeing the original for the contortions. In other rarer cases... so few changes occur that one might have so much difficulty seeing any differences.
So while biology defines us greatly to begin with... it is our experiences that take the greater seat in defining us the longer we live

What is 'biological fact' anyway? Simply one's genetics?
