No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky
What do you guys think of this game? If you've not heard of it I'll give you a few details. It's a space flight game. Procedurally generated universe, algorithms to generate planets, animals, features all on the fly when you discover it. Your name is tagged to it if you discover it first. Supposedly if you visit a planet every second it will take you like 5000 years to visit all the planets in the game. There's a center of the universe which the end game is to get to. Something they're keeping secret is at the center. Hoping it's a black hole to send you to an undiscovered planet. It is online, but the chances of you coming across other people are so slim that it's not the focus. Also the planets are supposed to be earth size so even exploring one planet is a crazy job all in its own.

This game is made by the people who made Joe Danger (hello games I think)

It will be for PC, and PS4

That sounds amazing. I wonder how the distance between planets in handled, though. It would be a bit problematic if you had to spend several years travelling at light speed to get to another solar system. If the planets are really earth sized, wouldn't it take basically forever to explore even one? It's hard to grasp the idea of that much content being in a game; I've never seen anything like it.

All I know is they've talked about you having to get upgrades for your ship to be able to travel farther. Maybe there will be jump gates as well. You can acquire money various ways, pirate, trader, mining stuff, selling animals I think, and doing escort missions are among some of the various things they've named. Not all planets will have life, some will have hostile enviornments you will need to upgrade your suit for. Instead of having a weapon the only thing they've talked about is your multitool. Which you can upgrade too I think. The animals are generated based on the planets property's. I cannot wait for this one.

I think I'll buy a PS4 just for this. Well, maybe for this and Bloodborne.

This game really does sound amazing. If it does well, I might, as others have said, just buy a PS4 for this and give my family my old Blu-ray player. However, I'm worried about a few things. that probably can't be answered until release. Is it always-online? Is it going to be massive in terms of file size (in which case I would have to buy retail- can you even buy it on disc)? Will the worlds actually be any good (graphically and gameplay wise)? And most importantly, is it too ambitious for such a small developer?
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

They said you can play it offline, but yea it will be always online if you're connected. In the sense of like journey I guess. I never played Journey, but I think they referenced that. They also stated that multiplayer was not the emphasis, because the universe was so large you probably wont run across other players very often. However the end game goal is to reach the center. Which they're not revealing what's at the center. Maybe we will see more player activity at the center, or you can link up with your friends somehow. Another thing I forgot is you can mark the planets on your starmap if you choose to, to let other players know they are there!

I don't imagine the file size would be that massive. The graphics aren't super impressive, just great art direction, and lots of color. I'm thinking it's going to be retail. Not sure if Sony struck up a deal with them, and I don't think it's permanently exclusive to PS4. It will be confirmed on PC. I can't remember if they talked about putting it on the Xbone. If they do it will be after the PS4, and PC version I think.

To your last to worries that is what everyone else is worrying too. How's the gameplay. Will there be stuff to do to keep your entertained, etc, etc. Some base building would be cool, and controlling planets in clans would be AWESOME, but I think they said they didn't want this to be the case. I think they want it to be more PVE with the random events of you coming in contact with other people. The only real civilization's as far as I know will be Space Stations for you to do your trading at.

Unfortunately they are keeping tight lipped. They have one trailer from e3, and a few interviews talking about it, but I've almost stated everything. That I can remember at least.
