RE: Surah 9:5
The "scriptures" are the "actual word of god" in Islam... allegedly... which is the whole problem... as there is no god !!!

New sects can be created

Education can solve many issues (even if they don't lose their faith

More contact with less religious people and less contact with fundies is one strategy I can think of

THE KORAN demands 91 times that Muslims imitate Mohammed in every way.

That's why the violent verses are a problem for Islam, but not for Christianity. Because Jesus didn't kill anyone. Mohammed certainly did. And he is a "beautiful pattern of conduct to follow".

Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day... (Qur'an, 33:21)

Happy days !

I wish I had remembered this passage the last time I was talking with MysticKnight.

Oh well the moment passed.

At first I thought, "Okay, there has to be some broader context to this that changes the surface meaning," mainly because I had never really seen it before and consider myself moderately acquainted with the Gospels. But kudos to you, the verse means exactly what it says--it is a parable about the coming kingdom of God in which Jesus is the king and his "enemies" are slain before him. What. The. Fuck.

Point is Islam and Christianity have the same roots, and were both thought up in medieval times. but thankfully there aren't many Christians these days following a literal translation of those texts. Unlike the quran.

I used to be a heretic (kind of a secular reformed something e.g I believed apostates and homosexuals shouldn't be killed) before losing my faith, I think Muslims can do it like I've done but they might get persecuted
